Discussing a signing with a player that is being traded to another team seems like something the Canucks would get penalized for. Maybe not other teams, but definitely the Canucks. Why not trade him and sign him again as a UFA?

Schenn has really elevated his career in Vancouver. He will get a 2nd from a contender at deadlinelikely a 4th or 5th+7th
Smallish, 25ish year old defenders with limited league experience are something that we have no interest in, largely because we have been hoarding them the last few years. Three of the four posters above you just stated a 2nd round pick would be a fine cost for Schenn, so I'd be looking to start around there.I could see Buffalo offer 1 of Pilut, Fitzgerald, or Bryson and a 6th for Schenn
Ehh when Chiarot got a 1st+4th, Manson got a 2nd + prospect, and Middleton got Kahkonen (worth a 2nd or 3rd probably) + 5th, I'd say Schenn's value lies somewhere between a 1st or a 2nd.4th round pick Is probably close market value for comparable players. Could see him getting a 3rd if the D man market stays tight

He's been fine as a top 4 d man on Vancouver, and on a contender is the perfect bottom pair d-man that can move up in case of injury.
He also got 10 or fewer minutes per night, part time mind you, during his much ballyhooed run with the Bolts.Though Chiarot was also getting 20+ minutes a night last year, Schenn averages even with the Canucks under 17ish min atoi which is closer to bottom pairing territory than top 4.
I suspect Schenns closer to having around the same value as Lyubushkin did when he was with Arizona.
In six weeks Schenn goes from borderline NHLer to worth at least a 2nd round while playing on the a team that is compeletly underachieving. Lol.
Yeah contenders are gunna be all over this gem.
I used to tell myself Ian White is a top four defenseman.
He sure has an interesting career trajectory. Hot shot prospect, to young bluechip with too high of expectations, to failed prospect nearly finding himself out of the league, to mature, grizzled, back to back cup winning veteran.Schenn has really elevated his career in Vancouver. People who still think he is as bad as he was after he left Toronto.6 weeks ago he was a borderline NHLer? According to who?
not directed solely at you but i've always hated the discussion around what qualifies someone to fit in what descriptorThough Chiarot was also getting 20+ minutes a night last year, Schenn averages even with the Canucks under 17ish min atoi which is closer to bottom pairing territory than top 4.

This would be my feeling on it. Schenn plays well with Hughes, can play down the line up on a different pair if needed. He is physical, does small things like sticks up for teammates, clears the front of the net, etc., all while making $850k a year. If someone wants to over pay (a 2nd in my opinion is an over pay) then sure move him, but if its to get a 3rd or worse, just keep him for what he is, a low maintenance RHD making almost league minimum.A 3rd feels fair, but at that point, does Van just keep him?
