Though he wouldn't have been my choice, I think Schenn is serviceable, and i like his size and physicality. From all accounts he's a great locker room guy too.

If we could pull some magic and get a 2c that would give us an entire legitimate nhl 5 man unit in the black ace squad. That's incredible insurance for the playoffs.

I like this move. If we go on a long run we'll need all the tough d we can get. Yes we paid the price but needed to do something.
And when you think that the picks we gave are longshots to even make the nhl its not such a big price

Doesn't this guy hit a lot?
I don't like throwing Miller in the press box but if Luke brings some physicality im fine with that for the poffs.
Saskatoon boy, 6' 2" and 230 lbs - and, he can hit. This man has bull coelacanth written in black sharpie on his forehead.

I could see the Blues having some interest in a guy like Barlow, I think we might have to move out some salary as well.

Something like Barlow, 2025 1st, and a low tier roster player like Kupari or Gus.
I'm not a fan of trading baŕlow,he may not turn out but he can score,it's amazing watching oshawa how often the goalie is always cheating to barlows side on the pp,thus creating opportunities on the other side of the ice,he is also heavy on the body more often than not.if you think yager can be a good setup man, barlow is the trigger man,he is also good on set plays down a goal.

Not sure how his game has aged, but he looked really good in his stint in Vancouver. I have no issues with this or Tanev. Price might be high, but it always is at the deadline.
Unless there is a bigger fish coming I am glad to keep the first.

schenn was playing 15m/night bottom-pair on one of the worst teams in the league. ppl really think he gonna be top pair 20m+/night here? call me a bit skeptical.

He is here to play the hard PK mins to take some of that burden off DeMelo and a Pionk so that will have some value.

not surprised it was Miller who was seemingly upgraded before Stan. Disappointed though.

An overpay imo, but if he can play a regular shift, kill penalties and take some fights from Lowry, that is a plus.

However, I see him needing a partner that can carry the puck such as Heinola (who we know won't get a sniff in the lineup)

I shudder to think of Stanley carrying the puck more than he already does if paired with Shenn!

No surprise to me either - talked about this earlier - they need and wanted to add size and have no intention of removing the size they already have.
I'm not disappointed - a big third pair that can crush is a great thing to have - cycles get cut short in a hurry and net front traffic becomes much less an issue.
There won't be a lot of speed with these two but you can't have everything on the third pair - and I like the thought of having the added physical.

Morrissey gushed about Schenn, both as a person and a player. He said he went through a period in his career where he could have been done, but he completely reworked his game.

He's still physical, but instead of gooning around, he worked really hard at improving his zone exits, both with short and long passing.

Morrissey seemed very genuine and knowledgeable about it, not just throwing around platitudes, and was really happy that the Jets grabbed him.

He for sure did. I am not sure what isnt to like here. Jets had a need for a depandable bottom pairing D with grit and physicality (this is the reason why Stanley has been in the line up). Bring in Schenn who has 1000+ games, Stanley Cup rings, and most importantly does not upset the applecart on team chemistry. By all accounts a beloved teammate and a warrior on the ice.

That last point is applicable to Tanev, a known commodidty to the players and organization. The theme is pretty clear.

To me the messaging from Jets Management to the team is we believe in you, and having respect for the bond the locker room holds.

These are two very solid, underrated moves.
