I still think he can be a 4th liner/spare type of guy. Would be nice to have one and stop overpaying (Weal) or giving late picks (Ott, King etc.) for that kind of player.
Agreed, he can safely replace a Dale Weise already and not have you any worse off.

Today, Sodertalje is scheduled to play a preseason game. Vejdemo will be in the line-up. He practiced for the first time the other day:

According to this, he will be centering their second line, next to LA's prospect Fagemo.

Vejdemo played today on the 2nd line, it was his first preaseason game, his team lost 4-1. I don't have the stats other then he didn't score and was listed as the 2nd line center.

If the season won't start until the earliest in January, why aren't Juulsen, Mete, Poehling, and Fleury playing in Europe??

They could really use the development time. Even KK, Brook, Evans, Romanov and Primeau could use the time.

That's a really tempting idea. However, even these players play a bunch of games from now till possibly January then the NHL season starts - and Betman wants to play a full season - and they will have to play possibly 82 games and, God willing, playoffs. That could be a little much and they will likely run out of gas at some point. But it is a great idea for the players that are not expected to play much in the NHL.

All of those players except for Evans and Romanov are not pegged to be in the top 12 forwards or 6D. I'd rather they all over-played than under-played this year.

we don't know when it will start, but ask MB as how would any of us know. I would think there's only so many spots since it's certainly over 100 players have been loaned.

Betman just came out and said the season could possibly start in January. Alan Walsh said no way he sees the season starting before January prior to Betman going public...

I think all those players are better than Vegdemo and perhaps Ylonen. I'm surprised we can't find takers, when other teams have found takers for lesser players. Lavoie is now playing in the 2nd swedish division. But at least he's playing.

Was hoping someone may have some insight into why that is.

All of them are NA guys. It can be hard to go play somewhere where you don't speak the language, especially in the current circumstance.

for sure, only a small handful of non Euros have been loaned to Euro clubs

Indeed, even in a regular world, it's a pretty huge decision. In a covid world, a round trip to see the wife/children (unless she leaves her job to follow you for a couple months) takes a full month with the quarantine both ways, so it's pretty much out of the question. It could kill relationships and cause burnouts. I'm pretty sure any player with a gf/wife working in NA is really not looking forward months away from their love and children if they have some.

Vej reminds me of Engqvist in terms of having almost NHL upside but not really excelling in any area of the game.

It is sorta similar. Vejdemo does seem to have more of a willingness to stick to it , while Engqvist gave north america a shot for 2 years and that was pretty much it for him.

I think that's pretty fair, Vejdemo at least has NHL speed which helps his chances.

Both fair points. Just who is Vejdemo as a player? He's not gonna be on the fourth line of a good team and he's not really proven third line upside. Make or break year for him.

I picture him as a Nordstrom type of player if he manages to make it.
I hope he makes it. I was looking over the roster and we only have 5 drafted and developed players. Only Gallagher, Price and Kotkaniemi in key roles.

The best case scenario for him would be shutdown center on a defensive line/PK specialist a la Nate Thompson . He needs to be able to do more with the puck at the NHL level though , a guy like Evans is already in front of him in large part because he can play a good two way game AND make a play when he has a chance.

Curious why would you have him as a possible 3rd liner, but not 4th liner.

To me, if all goes well for him, he's a depth forward. A number 12-14 forward type who could fill in primarily at LW on your 4th line and on the penalty kill. Can play center if needed, but doesn't have the puck skills to do it regularly.

Joakim Nordstrom is actually a good comparison in terms of role.

Teams tend to acquire these kind of players when they're finished products, instead of developing them, so I think this is Vejdemo's last contract with the Habs.

He's a useful player in Laval though.

Vejdemo's fate with the Habs will be decided by the end of 2021 fore sure. If he shows enough this year, maybe they try him to replace Weal at half the cost for the following season. If he can't cut it in 2021-2022, he's probably headed back to Sweden.

I always liked him a little more than de la Rose because he's not a total offensive black hole.

Having said that, De la Rose had size, defensive IQ, and speed. We really should have attempted to convert him into a dman. It was clear he wouldn't cut it at forward.
