I must be missing something, Reaves has never stood out as an excellent fighter. If this were the 90's-2000's he'd have to be a better fighter just to play, and in reality he's just scraping up wins on former middleweights that are now hockey's "best" fighters, but they're not.

He's just a big boy leaning on usually smaller guys and trying to out-pace them, but there's no fighting skill like you'd get nostalgia for in other eras. For a guy who calls people spot pickers and acts like the king of the fighting ring he's a huge spot picker....

He has fought McQuaid, Ross Jhonsson, Adam Lowry, McGrattan and Parros ?
I mean those guys are all fighters with the exception with Lowry

He also fough Gyrba and Paul Biossentte.

He also fough Kane few years ago? I mean he's a good fighter

The line matters because naturally Lucic had no interest in fighting the worst player in the NHL (Laraque).

I mean he's not good at it. That was very clear. If Bissonnette and Kane are even in your evidence list for this you're proving my point. He faced a couple ancient true heavyweights way earlier in his career and now he fights power forwards and grinders because he's a spot picker on middleweights he can try to flex on. The NHL doesn't carry Parros level heavyweights anymore and Parros wasn't even an amazing heavyweight, so like... you're proving the point.

Donald Brashear and Georges Laraque would eat Ryan Reaves for lunch and they're not even the best.

How much skill and technique is actually involved in hockey fights? With two guys standing right infront of each other and holding onto each other how much can you really do two overcome physical advantages like reach, power, speed, ability to take a punch?

He’s not typical of NHL fighters but I’ve seen Jeannot use judo/BJJ-style grip breaks and intelligently set up his knockout blows. That guy actually has some legit skill and technique. But most just either swing wildly and pray they connect or clutch and grab until the ref breaks it up.

I agree with most on here. Reeves just flails and throws wild punches. When he misses he's prone. MacDiermid exploited that, waiting for a wild punch miss, then threw 3 to the back of Reeves head for the knockdown.

I think Lucic is a more disciplined fighter. But Lucic is old.
