It would be really hard for any new GM to look at what Jimmy did in Games 3-6, and not think this guy sucks.

You gotta add Game 1 to it, too. Game 2 was a fluke: Oilers hadn't yet figured out that that was actually Hiller's strategy – to play with 3 lines and 4-5 defensemen against them. It's so insane that no one with a sane mind would have considered that possible in today's NHL. Once Game 3 confirmed that that insanity was, in fact, Hiller's game plan, it was over.

Getting pretty tired of the bitching about Hiller.

Our players needed to be better; if Byfield is able to simply clear the puck we win the series.

We whined about Todd M, Willie Desjardins, John Stevens, etc. Odds are you'll whine about whoever would replace him.

Hell, Jim Hiller probably has one of, if not the highest win % as a coach behind the Kings bench in our history. Like you guys think Jim Hiller was telling the team to sit back on leads? No. Our players did.

The only other argument is Hiller was telling them not to sit on the leads and the players tuned him out and ignored him, and that's not good either. So Hiller either chose to sit on the leads or he's lost the players and they ignored him, BOTH OF WHICH FALL ON HIM

Two plays stand out to me.

The goal before Byfield's failed clear was Doughty going backhand up the middle. Didn't get enough on it, turnover, shot deflected off Doughty into net. 11AAV for that. Not the only time Doughty went backhand up the center either.

The Kane goal & follow up challenge. The correct play was for Kopitar to push Kane through the crossbar. This puts Kane off balance & makes it less likely he gets a stick on the puck. It takes the net off the mooring so the whistle goes killing the play. Kopi failed, puck in net, hiller challenge & done.

The King's "best" players let them down.

The problem with Hiller is he ran a strategy that was very unlikely to work & it visibly burned the team out by game 5. He didn't run 4 lines for much of the season opting for the 11/7. Game 6 when Hiller was forced to play the bench because the team was out of gas, they hadn't been put in those high stress situations during the regular season. Regular season is for getting the players up to speed. If they aren't up to speed by the deadline, bring in an upgrade.

I can understand the lack of minutes for the 4th line.

Tanner Jeannot really carried that line and without him there it really showed. Sammy did well but the other wings were quite poor. Jeff Mallott, Trevor Lewis, and Alex Turcotte were non factors.

Hiller kinda reminds me a bit of Terry Murray, leans too much to the defensive side and not a balanced game, might just be me though

Dont die on this Hiller. He is so bad w strategy as to be embarassing - just look at how he ran 9-4 wore out the players - actually started Trevor Lewis *on* *the* *road*, and subbed in him over Kuzmenko. He also doesnt know how to build confidence in his younger players. Spence played well all season, you dont scratch that kid, he's more effective than Doughty. Clarke getting 3 minuites. Not trusting his youth and not rolling lines are the main reasons he lost the series. His challenge was brutal and most likely flipped the momentum in the series. He's also arrogant and doesnt admit his mistakes. f*** Hiller.. I hope the new GM runs that guy out of town

Hiller is almost as bad as Cassidy.

Just watched the press conference. Luc completely avoided the question that asked if he looked at his own role/performance

The potential external candidates from outside don’t excite me. A first time GM wouldn’t bother me in principle.

In terms of internal candidates we obviously have no visibility of how much of a voice they had over the last few years. Of the internal options the reason I favour Yannetti is that I do think he thinks differently. His role is also far enough removed from the professional setup of the main roster that I don’t think he’s likely to have much, if any influence on it. I don’t think someone like Emerson would be a meaningful change, Yannetti MIGHT be.

It’s incredibly hard to assess as we simply don’t know how the internal options affected the NHL roster be that directly or otherwise.
