I said HISTORICALLY in the playoffs. Islander crowds were never loud during the Potvin era IMO! Perhaps with another good showing like last year you'll make the list! ;)

Guess you never went to a Potvin era playoff game. My ears rang for days afterward.

#1 is Montreal AINEC.

Since the Canadiens are my second favorite team I was able to attend the Bruins @ Habs home opener this year as a birthday present and I will just say that the volume of the crowd did not even COME CLOSE to any of the Islanders games I have been to this season.

I love the atmosphere at the Bell Centre but I don't think any arena has touched the Nassau Coliseum in terms of loudness. You can also go back to the playoffs in the shortened season when the Coliseum won a poll on HFboards with like 75% of the vote over every other team in the playoffs for loudest arena.

Obviously acoustics and design have to do with it also but the answer to the question is Nassau Coliseum/Islanders.

But see, it is close. Actually, i think isles fans have been louder this season. So in fact your closeness was closer than you expected, wasn't it?

If the Isles were in last place NVMC wouldn't be loud. If the Habs were in last place...the Belle Center would be. That's the difference.

I've been to playoff games on LI and regular season in Montreal. Even regular season games are LOUD in Montreal.

The truth is all these examples are pretty close. Good on all of them for creating some exciting atmosphere. Unless you are taking decibel readings at every game in every arena the loudest building is kind hard to determine. Homer bias is evident everywhere in this thread.

Wait for the playoffs this year. Turn on the TV for an Islanders home game. Then return to this thread.

Notably loud arenas from what I've seen:

Islanders, Habs, Philly, Capitals

I think the Jets and Isles would be the two loudest come playoff time but don't see anyone topping Winnipeg.

You can BARELY hear the horn.... Plus the game wasn't even there....

While I'm sure the game was very loud. Footage from the crowd and probably a phone isn't reliable. Phone mics go crazy when it has to register crowd noise.

I dont expect the Oilers to ever make the playoffs again while playing in Rexall Place...but Rexall gets my vote...by far the loudest rink...and i think we have the NHL record for loudest arena too from back in 2006, i could be wrong though.

Next time the Oil make the playoffs...it'll be in Rogers Place.
