It's a shame the loss came about in a shootout, because I think it overshadows a lot of really frustrating things we've seen from the Leafs.

1 - The biggest knock on JvR in Philadelphia was that he went large stretches where he was anonymous. Well, he's been pretty MIA lately. After his hot start, he's hardly noticeable out there anymore. It's no wonder Kessel struggles to find any sort of open room out there.

He's young and will find himself eventually, but you can't have a top line winger go missing for games at a time like he has.

2 - Gardiner this, Liles that, puck moving defensemen are the best thing since sliced bread blah blah. None of that matters if you can't keep sound defensive zone coverage. The Leafs are a super soft team when trying to defend their own slot.

3 - Bozak had an awful night. Despite the goal, struggled at both ends of the rink. And yet oddly was successful in the shootout again.

Two of Reimers goals were cross creasers

He struggled tonight; there are a few that he will want to have back, not to mention Ott's shootout winner.

But it's pretty darn hard to pin that on him - the coverage in front of him was atrocious at times. On Pominville's goal, Bozak must have lost his man about 5 times in the same shift (the sad thing about that, is that it's not an over-exaggeration).

The Leafs are a soft defensive team right now - it's so easy to play in the slot. No boxing out, no push back, no tight coverage. Nothing.

Just finished watching. You'd have to say a point got away there, but at the same time you can never be too upset at getting 3 of 4 points off a back to back, especially when the second one is in Leaf Killer City with Dr. Leaf McGillikilly in net. Give me 2 of 4 of this Boston set coming and I'll be well pleased with the last 4 games from there.

Frattin is invisible again, sit for Hamilton to check in for a game, give him a kick in he head?

Gardiner was a +3 and was very dynamic in transition. Although I agree with the sentiment, naming him in your argument doesn't make sense.

Holzer can suck it.

Frattins not going, neither is JVR.. I think JVR needs to carry the puck more he has good hands and speed.

What is Frattin supposed to do with Grabovski? I thought Frattin has looked pretty good, he's great at puck possession and I've noticed that when he has the puck, other teams have a difficult time stripping it away from him. I believe he also leads the Leafs in PDO numbers (puck possession) or is at least up there.

But Grabovski is always carrying the puck himself and is not a distributor. Can't expect Frattin to succeed in those circumstances.

Grabos not the problem here at all... Frattins just not playing at the same skill level, or hitting for that matter.

Gunner should sit for a game to let Kostka come in... Kostkas underrated defensively.

The fact that games suddenly become 3 point games just because they go to overtime has always confused me

Why not have the eventual winner get 2 points and nothing for the eventual loser

Or split the points with a tie? 1 a piece?

Why does an overtime game hold more value than a game won in regulation?

3 points for regulation win
2 for OT/SO
1 for OT/SO loss

A couple things that really impressed me as of late have been Kulemin's play and the fact that anyone that plays with Kadri has elevated their games.

What is really starting to get me is the fact that the Leafs are slowly moulding themselves into last years team where its lets just try and outscore the opposition instead of play more of a Carlyle system. I'm sure he hates it when it starts to become a track meet and players are going on end to end rushes.

I'm glad the Leafs salvaged a point, but they could have done themselves a couple more favours by holding that lead. Luckily the rest of the East doesn't feel like its crunch time, so I'm slightly ok with the result.

There is no chance that the Leafs can have those defensive pairings against Boston on saturday and monday. The Liles/Gardiner matchup will get owned by the cycle game of the Bruins. The reason you haven't seen them overly mismatched yet is because they haven't gone against some power forwards. Although you have seen them start to crumble in their own end at points during the game.

Bad defensive coverage all game - the Foligno and Stafford goals were just horrendous.

Kadri is separating himself from the rest of the team and it's incredible to watch.

I thought we definitely deserved a win but Miller made some key saves, while Reimer didn't make the key saves we needed.

All good. Now with 2 solid games played, I hope they can carry that fire and energy against Boston.

Very exciting game.

Kadri is god, no other way to put it.

We had so many chances, can't believe we didn't score a couple more goals.

Our defensive coverage was garbage once again, I stopped counting giveaways after the first. Fairly sure it was mentioned at some point during the broadcast that we lead the league in giveaways.

Jake needs to make decisions faster, he got caught a few times because of that.

Randy please do something with the defense!

Onto Boston now. :help:

Only saw half the game, dentist scheduled in the morning. But I think offensively we are starting to look close to great. So many nice passes and players who can turn on the burners when they need or want to. Defensively it was a bit so and so. Perhaps need an extra big body at the back end. Holzer when he have gained some confidence.

Jake Gardiner brings an element to this team we need, but he did make some ill timed decisions, he is still preferable to Liles by a large margin. I don't like this tandem as it stands, we are giving up too many chances. I hope we can move Liles at the deadline and go with Kostka/Holzer and Gardiner. See more balance in this pairing. Our D is a better puck moving unit with Gunnar, Jake, and Liles, but we have lost a lot of size back there with the trade off. Another reason I prefer Jake to Liles is his shot, it's underrated around these parts, he gets it through and as we saw last night, tippable.

If they could just stop self-destructing in the middle of the game :help: They keep letting the other team back in the game. Buffalo had no business even being in this and yet, they let up just enough to give them momentum and then go into panic mode for 5 or more minutes at a time.

On the plus side, back to back games and they walked away with points in both.

when your goalie lets in two soft goals a game you have to play run and gun in order to try to win the game. its as simple as that

reimer has let in too many soft goals since he came back from injury'

its the same scenario from last year.

When your defense completely breaks down multiple times a night your goalie lets goals in. Its the same scenario from last year.

i thin RC has to take part of the blame here.

Against winnipeg if you remember they were all over us in the second period. we couldnt get the puck out of our end for at least 5 minutes. at that point he should have used his time out and chewed their arses out on the bench. scream, yell put some passion back into the players.

the same as last night when buffalo started coming on in the second period. call a timeout scream yell chew arses out.

whats the sense of saving that timeout never to use it. Use it whenever its needed
first, second or third period. If you use it early and you need some time later, your goalie can always "tighten" his laces or a player can come over to the bench to "get" a new stick stc.

RC use your timeout!!!!
