They can do both. And thats what makes them especially dangerous.

Quick is a slightly above average goalie that had one unreal season which has put him in some sort of untouchable upper echelon. He is extremely overrated and not anywhere near the talent Lundqvist is.

Additionally, are people really bashing AV? I am 100% sure if you asked at the beginning of the year, "would you consider season 1 an amazing success if AV brings the Rangers into the SCF" every single answer would be a resounding YES.

These games have been tough, no doubt, but lets not act like this hasn't been a great season.

Different eras different teams. The current Ranger team is better defensively than the rangers were in 94. The 94 team was a far better offensive team. Leetch, Zubov, Messier and Graves made up much of a great PP. Was Leetch or Zubie great on D? maybe somewhat above average?

Lundy vs Quick...???

Mantle or Mays? Even if we give Lundy the edge that's a problem for the Rangers. Given the King's better offense/PP a slight edge in goaltending is not enough.

If stats defines a players career than Dan Marino was by far the greatest NFL QB of all time. However, without winning a championship he rates high in the top 10.
Yes championship matter when fans are polled and pick the best of all time.

Most fans are idiots. Lundqvist may get in the hall of fame one day. Barring injury, there's a good chance he ends up top 5 in many goalie stats. Sorry, but Richter is not in the same league with him. If Richter had been a goalie on any other team, we'd be laughing at this notion.

That cup meant so much to this organization and its fans. So much so, that the players that won it sit in a glorified air. No one can touch them if they don't deliver the same.

That Rangers team was the best in the NHL all season. They were picked to win the cup. What team has Hank played on where people have thought that. Last years half year that turned into a nightmare?

Richter was my hero growing up...but have people really forgotten the horrific goals he gave up all playoffs in 1994? For the most part he was brilliant, but he had multiple moments that made you shake your head...just like practically every great goalie.

There's a lot of revisionist history in this thread when comparing Hank with Mike...

Agreed. Anyone remember the Ron Francis goal from center ice that destroyed our Stanley cup dream in, what was it, 1992? And watch game 7 against the Canucks from 1994; the goal that Babych scored was atrociously soft. He made some enormous saves though, but he had warts.

Well this is incorrect. If he was that elite it should be reflected in his save % or GAA. Yet somehow other than that one super elite year it never has and he has been consistently slightly above average but hes a reputation for being great from that one year. And he plays behind a good defense so you could not use the argument that his players let him down.


Among goalies who have played over 1/2 their teams games in a given season Quick's save% are:
08-09: 16th
09-10: 25th
10-11: 12th

13-14: 15th

What I want to know is why are his career numbers not consistently elite if he has these so-called elite reflexes and talent?

A large part of a goaltenders success relies on the team in front of him. Statistics are the result of your technical ability coupled along with the team in front of you & the quality of the defense, along with some puck luck. Not all shots on goal are created equal.

His statistics stand on their own not only in the regular season, but in the playoffs. That coupled with his actual technical ability, he's one of the top in the world. It's just a fact.

Linden scored both goals for the Canucks in Game 7.

Still doesn't make sense.

First off everyone claims the Kings have a good defense. Second regardless over a huge long term 6 year sample size it is a safe assumption that all goalies face a similar spread of shots provided we are not on huge outliers such as a team with league worst defense 6 years in a row which is not the case here. That scenario over one assuming Quick only facing very tough shots and other guys face soft shots is by far more realistic.

We're not talking about a month or two of marginally above average results we're talking about an entire career where he's had one super elite season, one marginally above average, two ~average, and two pretty far below average.

Additionally given he has ranked 25th/26th or so for two years in terms of sv% among goalies who played in at least half their team games that almost automatically means their were goaltenders who put up better stats despite playing on worse defensive teams
 
Welp, I'll be at the game tomorrow. Figure it'll will probably be the best day to go---either it's (most likely) the only game they win this series or the beginning of a comeback! Either, way excited to be at the first SCF in 20 years for our boys :)

I'll be screaming like crazy--hope and think we will pull this one out!

For me. Price is really overrated. I think HF forgot how good Rinne is due to him missing most of the season.

So your argument is the Kings make his save percentage worse? Don't think I've heard that one yet.

He's been slightly above league average since he entered the league.

Yea but what you are missing is that the Kings face a higher percentage of lasers than any other team.
