Quick isn't that good, but unfortunately people (as you can see here tonight) will base their observations on small sample sizes.

When Quick has another sub .920 sv% regular season, people will still say that he "gets it done" and is "clutch.".

Out of the 7.5 million (peak viewers) of Game 2, how many actually know hockey? Quite a few, but probably they are the a very major minority. They just care about the favourite, and the players that are showcased and presented to them glowingly. It's exciting for them.

We know it's just showtime for the NHL, so I don't think we should be surprised. Even though we know his stature, Quick is still good enough to get it done for the team he plays for. That is also a fact, so you also have to understand that he looks more successful, right?

Respectfully, if Hank "got it done" this series, we wouldn't be having this conversation.

No arguments from me on that.

And understand: All things being equal, I certainly am not saying I would rather have Quick on this team than Hank. Just disappointed in his SCF performance. That said; if we're considering their respective cap hits for the next few years... that muddies the waters some in my mind. Anywho - this thread is not the place to debate that one.

On to game 4. Let's hope they start inching back into the series. 1 shift, 1 shot, 1 save, 1 goal, 1 game at a time.

Yeah...about that...

Point three: His salary is a non-issue in my opinion. He is a top paid goaltender, and this post season, for all intensive purposes, he played like a top paid goaltender. He did get his team to the Stanley Cup Finals while being their best player in that stretch after all.

Bigger issue with salary? Allocating funds to players not performing. $14.4M between Richards and Nash is brutal and unacceptable for a team to compete with a team as deep as LA, Chicago, Boston, etc. At the end of the day, Lundqvist's performance is further magnified because he is the star player on our team we expect results from. If Richards and Nash live up to expectations, we aren't even having this discussion. Because if that $14.4M lived up to expectations, we probably aren't down 3-0 right now. I have no problem allocating big money to Lundqvist given his performance with the team. We have $14.4M of dead weight. Put it in perspective, Richards and Nash are making more than Kane and Toews.

Again, if Richards, Nash or Girardi "got it done" we wouldn't be having this discussion. Especially Richards and Nash who are making a combined $14.4M.

At the end of the day, players the Rangers are allocating big money to are not performing. Lundqvist hasn't been amazing this series, but he hasn't been bad either.

If Nash or Richards actually lived up to their contracts, we wouldn't be down 3-0, and everything wouldn't be magnified on Lundqvist.

Nash is making $7.8M and is supposed to be a 40 goal scorer. Instead, he has 3 goals in 22 games. In contrast, Gaborik, a player we shipped out under Tortorella making a nearly identical salary, has 13 goals. The Kings highest paid players (Kopitar, Doughty, Carter, Gaborik) have all been FANTASTIC for them.

It's all about having the big money players perform for you. Outside of Lundqvist and McDonagh, their highest paid players haven't provided squat this post season.

Do you have a specific target in mind? I honestly believe Brady Skjei will be holding down the second pairing on the left side one and a half to two seasons from now. I really hate that they gave Girardi the NTC, because people would be willing to trade for him even with that cap hit. Two seasons down the line, our defense could be something like:

McDonagh-Stralman
Skjei-Allen
Bodie/Moore-Klein

I agree with you on Skjei. He's a very impressive young player with what seems like loads of upside.

I wouldn't mind something around Staal and Alex Goligoski. Pure defense for offense swap.

I'm not blaming Hank. The Rangers needed to be at their best to win this series, and that includes him.

"Hasn't been bad" is not good enough for us to beat this team. Whatever, doesn't matter at this point. I full agree with Señor Scale's analysis, I'll just leave it at that.

Girardi is the biggest playoff disappointment. The Rangers just gave him a lengthy contract and he's skating like grandpa out there.

Have to love Katie Strang. An imbecile as always. Calling the Kings road performance dominant. They had 12 freakin shots on goal and were out shot 30 to 12. Get a clue. It's more about the Rangers incompetence.

Never understood why they resigned Girardi mid season. He's been good for this team, tough as nails, but he has so much ware with the way he plays. His best years are way behind him, your body can't take that abuse night after night. Guy is worn, he'll continue to look slower and slower. Rash decision, felt that way at the time, and still do.

I won't watch game 4. There is only so much of the non finishing incompetence you can watch before you have to move on.

Staal only has one year left on his contract so it's tough to be picky

I'd be interesting in see if he could be used to land Kadri. We'd be getting a big young asset back so I wouldn't even mind tacking on a second rounder to get the deal done. Heck, throw in Kristo too.

Eh, I like Kadri more than most people, but I'm confident in Miller being able to step in and give us a balanced center trio.

We desperately need offensively ability from the blueline. I'm not worried about the forwards, really. Maybe we could replace Pouliot with a slightly better shooter.

Rangers will have tough choices to make. They can't fall in love with the fact they made it to the finals. They don't have enough finishers.

Wouldn't it be funny if in 10 days time we're on here talking about the most incredible comeback at the most important time?

History is unwritten. Hope drives people to do the improbable. 1 at a time. You really never know what can happen.

I agree. I have also made a list of things that i want more than that.

Lol. They're in the Stanley Cup Finals.

You'd think they were down 3-0 in the first round or were on a 5 game losing streak in the regular season the way some people complain.

So they may lose to a better team. It happens. But they're in the Stanley Cup Finals! I don't understand how people can just wash their hands of this team.

Be proud of them. Stick with them til the end. They've taken us on one hell of a ride that I never imagined they would take us on.

I feel bad Lundqvist will not get the cup he deserves, but at the same time, he didn't step up his game enough to earn it. One more timely save in games 1 and 2, and the Rangers win both. 1 more save. That's how thin the line is between a "good goalie" and a Stanley cup champion goalie.

This was probably his only shot at getting the cup. Oh well, it wasn't in the cards. He won't be the only great player in NHL history to have never touched the cup. That much is for sure. When you play your entire career on the NY Rangers, it's difficult to get many shots at the cup I suppose. We are not the Devils, or Red Wings who make the finals 5 times in 20 years. We make it once, if we're lucky.

I pictured in my head what it would be like for Gary Bettman to call over Lundqvist to accept the cup. The first goalie in NHL history to do so. A silly little dream, I suppose. But man, how sweet it would have been.

I won't be able to watch Game 4...working. So I hope at this point the Rangers have enough left in the tank to pull out one more win at the Garden Wednesday. I'll be off Friday, and would like to see just one more hockey game this season before it ends. :(

A bit dramatic, no? Our window isn't closing any time soon.
