Ovi with Two PP goals, and the Caps add an empty netter.
Holtby shuts the Kings down with a 45 save night, Brown gets the lone goal. Kings go 0-5 on the PP

3-1 Caps.

The Kings have 13 wins out their last 40 games, .325 hockey. That floored me when I looked that up.

Regression to the Mean.... Regression to the mean... Regression to the mean... Regression to the mean... Regression to the mean... Regression to the mean.... Regression to the mean... Regression to the mean.... Regression to the mean....

****.... how long is this going to take for me to brainwash myself into thinking this will work?

Regression to teh mean... regression to the mean.... regression to the mean.... **** it....

All caught up...we have 33 games to right the ship. At this point I just want to get in. DL will retool over the summer regardless.

We've had two 2x win streaks.
One 3x win streak.
One 6x win streak.

Compared to

Five 2x losing streaks.
Two 3x losing streaks.
Two 4x losing streaks.

Ovi is ****in adorable this year, can't help but root for the guy. I'm gonna love this EC trip cause I'll get to follow the team closer and hopefully witness them gaining control of their own fate. Calgary is a feelgood story but sadly they won't be holding on much longer and it should be us who'll take their place instead of Min or Dal. Team is well aware of the situation, Quick is angry and January is behind so we have all the reasons to be hopeful.

No, they are not a 'feelgood 'story because they are five points ahead of the Kings and for some fans, that's hard to digest. There is nothing 'sad' about how consistent they've been this year. A team that has 9 come from behind wins in the 3rd, good enough for 18 points is a team that gets the job done. Thanks to Center Ice, I watch hockey every night and saw the entire game vs the Jets last night and they never stopped from the first shift to the last, all 4 lines . The Flames are a good team with a lot young talent and a Captain that has done a terrific job this year both on defense and leadership.
I love the Kings, but they are not as good, not so far this year, not as consistant, not as hungry , not as fast.

Still, Calgary will fade. They might still make the playoffs because Vancouver might fade faster and Winnipeg is definitely coming back down to earth. I fully expect the Kings to claim second place in the Pacific.

Last night they did. Full game effort that was beautiful, but it's also a reeling Jets team. Most nights, they don't. I said smoke and mirrors because of those third period efforts and advanced stats and because most nights I watch them they're on their heels until the end of the third. They get the survival points that the Kings haven't, but they're not some powerhouse team--they're skirting by when they shouldn't be.

Agree with the bold because ultimately you're as good as your record says but they're falling out.

Regardless we can only take care of ourselves at this point. Have to put together a lengthy winning streak like yesterday.

This year? That's a large leap, given that in order to get 8 to get past the teams ahead, they'd have to win 4, time isn't going to stand still for them, the other teams play at the same time
They did a similiar stat for the Flyers a couple games ago, with the amount of games left, for them to get the 9 pts needed to get to a tie for 3rd, they'd have to win 25 games.

Right now, they're five points out of a playoff spot and which if they lose tonight, will be bypassed by either dallas or the avs who play each other and are 1 pt back of the Kings.
They have 3 tough games this week, and even winning all three won't move them up, because of the teams around them playing.
They have a steep uphill climb , and unless they play a lot more consistant, which has been a problem, they could be 9 points back by Sunday.

A few changes in the lines from practice. I'd rather have Lewis on the 2nd line, for speed if nothing else.

I wish I had your optimism. When we lost to Calgary I still was very confident.
Now I feel like the playoffs are starting to slip away, and the Richards thing is going to be a distraction.

I was watching the Capitals play St. Louis the other day and they had a 5 minute major. I think they got 2 shots off on the PP and one of those was in the final 10 seconds. The other was a point shot I believe. It was pretty Kings-esque.

I don't think it's a secret the key to shutting down the capitals PP is to put a man on Ovie

You may be right. In any other division LA would already be dusting off their golf clubs.

In the Pacific there's Anaheim and...well a bunch of teams that don't really seem to want to play hockey in the spring.

NOt really, right now they are '3rd in the NHL with 23.5%.

Kings will have to play a tight game 5-v-5 because there isnt much space on the ice against the Caps. They have a pretty quick top-two lines and their bottom two lines grind hard and outwork others. If Kings get a PP goal they should have a good chance at winning. Have to stay disciplined because Caps PP is amazing at creating seams and high-percentage shooting opportunities.

Flyers are done and in a different scenario altogether.

It's not a leap because of the Kings' history in the second half and the other teams propensity to keep losing, including San Jose.

And I didn't say they would end up in second place by the weekend. I do believe they will get there at the finish line.
