Ugh Kopitar again , will need to be white hot after the all star break to make his career average of 70 points.

So frustrating with him.

He's been real frustrating to watch this year. I honestly doubt he'll surpass 50 points if he keeps playing like this.

Carter has been pretty MIA lately too.

Winning without those two going is a great sign though. At some point both will start tearing it up .
For now be happy that we are winning and if Kopitar's numbers stay low maybe he will be re-singed for less than originally thought

The Kings can afford Kopitar even at Toews/Kane money, so that is not even an issue.

The Kings need Kopitar playing at a high level, if this team wants another cup.

58 points in 56 games. He could do it, if he ever starts shooting the puck, and going to the net, and all the other things we say about him every year.

I guess the SF Giants, or even the NY Giants when they were winning Super Bowls, are sort of like the Kings. They don't wow you with talent or wins. You don't know if the Kings are just tired from all the playoff games and short summers, or if they're pacing themselves knowing they can seemingly flick a switch, or if they're just not as good.

Possession numbers are down, an entire defensively pairing from the Cup team isn't there, Gaborik has played half the season and scoring at .5 a point per game, Kopitar is scoring at the same pace, yet the Kings are still 8th in goal differential, have the 12th best record in the league, but only 6 points behind Tampa Bay, and have the 5th best 5-on-5 goals for/against ratio. The Kings are averaging more goals per game so far this year than they did last year. That's with Gaborik out 50% of the time, Kopitar hibernating like 90% of the time, Voynov out, and two guys that have yet to play 100 NHL games leading the team in goals.

I don't know how the Kings beat Chicago with 0 goals from Kopitar. That might be the most amazing thing they did last year in the playoffs. They have to be one of the most frustratingly fulfilling teams in sports history. They're the tortoise. They're the kid that doesn't do his homework, but aces the test.

I can't remember if it was Jim Fox or Sean O'Donnell who mentioned it early in the season, but the Kings really want Jones to get 25+ starts this season. That way Quick is fresh come playoff time. It makes sense and as long as he's sharp down the stretch, that's all that matters.

This is part of it but Quick is fine playing a lot (but not B to B). I think it riles DL that he pretty much had to give Bernier away and wants to make sure he can get something significant back from Jones.

Even if Jones gets 25 games this year and we then sign him to a bridge deal for 2 years and he gets 25 each of those seasons. He's still going to be a backup that has less than 100 total NHL games. You don't get much for goalies in this league. Even proven starters much less those that aren't proven.

The most frustrating thing from Kopitar is that he isn't more assertive. In games that he is, he's almost untouchable. I'm literally screaming at the screen looking for him to shoot in the PP and he's just too passive. Still, one of the best centers in the league and i'm sure Sutter knows what to do to get the most out of him when it really matters.

Exactly. Quick has suffered through injuries each of the last 2 seasons which required missing a good chunk of time. Back surgery for the 2013 season. Groin injury in 2014. Wrist surgery this past offseason, which luckily didn't require missed time this season. It would be silly to trot him out there 60+ games this year when you don't need to. Regular season is no longer THE priority. I highly doubt DL is showcasing Martin Jones when he's likely going to be under Kings control for the next few years as he's an RFA next year. Quick is the commodity that needs to be healthy come playoff time. I think Sutter understands that.

I agree with both points. If we can get him for less why not, would help build other areas.

Kyle Chipchura makes a terrible pass to set up Brown's goal, high-sticks Nolan, gets stoned by Jones, gets waived. Ouch.
