Anyone else getting the odd feeling that Gary Gygax is rolling dice to see which Kings team shows up for any given game?

The defense (and that includes the forwards) is more of an issue than the lack of offense . Thru last night, the Kings have allowed 30 or more SOG in 9 games, that's way too many. And some of it is a ripple effect from Slava's situation with Muzzin coming back not 100%, but most of it is just mental breakdowns. Like on the goal last night on the PP when SToll and Lewis and the 2 D lined up in an I formation in front of quick, leaving the Canes forward all alone to score. Or not being able to clear the puck out or break it out cleanly (they miss Willie M. there, he was great at taking the pressure off with a strong pass).
They need to buckle down and play better, smarter in their own end and take the pressure off Quick.
And Sutter needs to quick playing musical chairs with the lines. Stability creates more fluid offense.

Agreed. It reminds me of the beginning of 2013 when our D was just a nightmare as new personnel took on large roles. I trust that we'll iron that out. But part of it is also lack of offensive possession. We are giving other teams tons of time with the puck due to turning it over instead of driving play, and then they walk right into our messy D-zone. Chain of tough events. I trust they'll iron it out, but my lord is it a comedy of errors right now. Add that all to the target on our back...

The Stars always give the Kings fits. 4-2 Stars.

You think we'll score 2?

Stars would be smart to play their 2nd/3rd string goalie and any/all rookies in their lineup.

Ha yes, from one of those huge tables at the back of the Dungeon Master's Guide

Slava's suspension forced Muzzin back early and that's a part of the D mess and the mixed up pairings. And they miss Mitchell, who was very good at controlling
things back there, taking pressure off with a solid , strong lead pass. It's no coincidence that they've given up over 30 SOG's in 9 games so far. That has to stop. And some of that is on the forwards, who need to focus more.

Part of the offensive woes are on Sutter for piss poor line decisions and lack of stability. When Gabby got hurt, Brown should have been put on the 1st line and stayed there. His point production and offensive success is tied to playing with Kopi and that won't happen playing with stoll. Richards, King and Williams would have been a good 3rd line if they'd had been allowed to play and stay together to form familiarity, players like that. The more you play the more comfortable you get. Richards has been the better player, the more consistent one and the more creative one than Stoll so far this season and keeping him with 4th line wingers will not gain consistent scoring chances because they are not scorers. His chances of producing are better with goal producers who understand how to move, where to go, when to shoot, etc.
I don't understand why Stoll is rewarded with 3rd line duties and better wingers, he isn't producing scoring chances and his Corsi numbers are down this year. And as long as Richards is saddled with Lewis, Nolan and Clifford, he have to claw his points the hard way.

How can Sutter be such a genius with line mixing in the playoffs but clueless during the regular season? I remember saying the Kings have been together for so long that anybody can play with anyone in the playoffs. It's the players! They're slagging it! No matter which lineups Sutter comes up with if no one plays how they are supposed to then it's not gonna mesh.

Our poor play has been our weakness in D. We hoped we can absorb the loss of WM, which was huge loss in itself, but pile on top the loss off VV, we are considerably weaker than ever before! WM was a master of holding the blue lines on both O & D! I can't remember at anytime he was ever caught up ice on two on ones. I'm sure it happened but it may have been once in a blue moon.

Kopi shuts down Benn's line and the 70's have a big game.
4-2 LA.
I'd love to see Kopi shut down the Benn line but I don't think Ruff will play that line vs Kopi and he has last change.
The Kings, and that includes the forwards, have to be much better in their own end, tightened it up and cut down on the SOG and scoring chances. I'll take a 2-1 win and don't care if the 70's line scores as long as the Stars get one less goal and much less room.
And that won't be easy with Benn and Seguin.
And stay out of the penalty box...

Kings PP Unit 1- I know Gabby wasn't out there last game, but Sutter didn't give him alot of minutes, which coming off an extended time off wsa the right thing. But I'm wondering when Gabby gets his legs nad timing back, how do the Kings adjust the PP ? Right now, he's using Carters line and Kopi with DD. But I'm sure he'll want Gabby back out there. So I'd guess Kopi-Carter-Gabby- TT and DD and Pearson moved to the 2nd unit?
I wish the 1st unit had a good QB, they just seem to be passing it around without any map or plan. If you watch the teams that excel at PP , they have set way they do it, with each player having a job and they practice it that wya. I think the Kings, esp the 1st unit, this year is suffering from a lack of Quarterbck, somebody who knows what to do and how to do it, not guess.

I'll take a win in any case.

That's what I see. Pass, pass, pass. (Except That '70s Line). You know you haven't had a good power play when you've had a grand total of one shot on net. Is there a site that tracks shots on goal during power plays?

So if the Stars don't score more than 3 goals they'll win? But, if they score more than 3 goals they'll still win? Doesn't look good for the Kings either way.

I'm just saying that if the Stars score their 4th goal, Kings will be adding to their highlight reel of comeback destruction against the Stars.

Kopitar and Gaborik going to come to life tonight?

It's about time that we get some production out of Brown and Stoll as well.

A couple of Stars are coming off the injury list and expect to play in tonight's game, Segei Gonchar and Valeri Nichushkin.

As a result, the line combos for Dallas are all over the place and have been updated in the GDT.

After looking at the Hawks record, I don't feel so bad now. We all know the 2 teams that are going to be battling out once again in the Western Conference final. Just sucks that the Kings are lifeless right now.
