Insinuating that you'll love NHL players in Olympics until Trouba gets hurt in one and Winnipeg's season is instantly ended. And yeah. Those two will be the top 2 D in the league very shortly. Drew already is #1 and I will always, ALWAYS argue that there is no defenseman in the game better. Trouba will be there shortly.

I was devastated when the Kings season was basically ended in the 06 Olympics. However even if Trouba/Doughty/Kopitar/ANYBODY got injured in Olympics I will not argue Olympics shouldn't have NHLers, it makes for a GREAT hockey experience.

I LOVE Doughty, I will be getting DD on my new Kings jersey I plan to get shortly (already have my Brown jersey :D) but Keith and maybe Weber and Suter can make arguments for the moment IMO.

Still though I am loving how the Kings have come out the break (my "other" team the Jets have been solid as well) so right now I am LOVING the Olympics:D.

LOL... per Robert P on JFTC, Subban was 4th in Montreal defenseman in TOI last night. 4th!

Habs were +7 in ES shot attempts when Subban was on the ice. -22 without him.

#1 star for the game was Therrien.

Can you imagine if Doughty was #4 in TOI for Kings defenseman on a given night? Sutter would be shot.

Nonsense. Subban is the greatest thing that has ever lived. It was absolute hogwash that he didn't play in Olympics. HE"S THE BESTEST EVERES!>!?!?!11!!!.

Despite the close score, that game was an awesome display of power by the Kings. That was vintage 2012 playoffs.

They dominated the play for the first 10 - 12 minutes and other times as well. The Hurricanes on Saturday looked much better than mont did last night.

The Kings should have scored more than 2 goals with all the pressurre they put on.

He was Montreal's best defenseman in terms of impact on the stat sheet, which is why on paper it's bizarre that he was 4th in ice time given how significantly better the Habs chance counts were when he was on the ice vs. when he was on the bench.

As several noted though at the beginning of the PGT, he was sloppy with turnovers and sloppy generally in his own end, which I'm sure affected his ice time.

This is a good example of why fantasy stats / advanced stats / stats alone don't tell the full story. From a stats point of view, Therrien should be shot. From a "people who actually watched the game" point of view, it's not surprising Subban had his ice time cut in last night's game.

I hate to sound like a know-it-all (no I don't), but I've been preaching for WEEKS to put Williams back with Kopitar and Carter back with Richards! Low and behold, Sutter FINALLY wakes up and listens....and our offense comes back. Thanks Axl!

I am a HUGE fan of "advanced", "fancy" or whatever you call the new wave of stats (even common stats, as advanced stats are merely rearranged common stats in general). However they are mostly USELESS at a game by game level. There is simply way too much difference game by game to make them anything more than interesting sub notes in a game. Like Marian Gaborik and Johan Franzen being the only players to score 5 goals or more in a single game since 1996 certainly doesn't make them the best players in the NHL. Players can vary by so much game to game, that's why coaching is still a HUGE deal in NHL (and every other sport for that matter, nobody can be at their best everyday).

These stats are VERY indicative of longterm success though if given enough of a sample size. This correlation has been proven time and time again and I will not go into it again. This assumption that people who like stats don't watch games should be abandoned it's simply not true. It's just another measure ON TOP of "eye test" that can help long term views of players. VERY few people claim that stats are the end all to be all.

Anyways, re: Subban, yes he is a liability. Always has been. People accuse Byfuglien of being a liability they should look at Subban :shakehead. This is nothing new. Subban may have had shots, but this game showed how exposed he will when faced with top end competition. So overrated him and Karlsson being last two Norris trophy winners is such a joke.

I don't think it would have worked before the break, but Richards (as, oddly, is Brown) is noticeably better/faster now...that line was buzzing with Pearson. Nice to see some energy there!

I was more shocked at how Subban couldn't handle physical adversity. Clifford was in his face and in his head all night to where Subban was going out of his way to crosscheck him. Brown pickpocketed and running-backed him along the boards to break through for a scoring chance.

Like I said before, you can see the raw skill, but it's pretty clear that Doughty has disciplined himself into a winner and all-around defenseman while Subban is being used in a more offensive role and has yet to fully develop the abilities to deal with different situations at the highest level.

But yes, one game sample size is a little unfair. I've really only seen bits and pieces of Montreal games otherwise but they weren't vastly different from last night.

Well as they say even a squirrel finds a nut now and then. But the reality is if you watch the Kings now they are playing with more urgency then January where that Awards month always kills them.

Literally no opponent has beaten Quick with a goal since the league started again after the Olympics. Two goals allowed was directly attributed to Stoll and Regehr!

I think there were a few times near the end of the game last night where the Montreal players knew they weren't going to beat Quick with a clean shot so they were just shooting into the skates in front of the net hoping for a lucky bounce.

Well, it worked once, so...:sarcasm:

Absolutely right though. They just started throwing everything across the crease. Nearly struck gold a couple of times but the defense last night in the slot was almost perfect--guys were always marked and tied up. Guys like Mitchell and Regehr especially did their jobs to a t, which usually means they go unnoticed, so props to them. I'd trade our entire draft for a fountain of youth for Mitchell.

Kings win?

I turned on the game last night and thought I had made a mistake and put Avatar on instead. Still want to smurfin smurf smurfette though.

Creepy.

Good game. We still have to tighten it up for the playoffs but not a bad overall effort.

If you break something, I bet that blue stuff never comes off.
