London Knights 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part VII

So, Knights & Habs fans... both teams play tomorrow at 7pm. Knights could eliminate the Rags, but it could also be the Habs last game.

I'm fortunate enough to have two TVs set up, so I can have both games on. But if you had to choose only one, which one is it?

Also, I wish I put in a third TV when we did our renovation.. because the Cubs are on at 6:40 😃
Knights on the TV, Habs on the iPad.

I would ditch both Abo and Ryder. Move 73 to the 4th line with VanBommel and Spencer, and bring up Hawery to the third line.
I’ve always liked Aboflan and not just because he’s from my hometown.

He’s had 3-5 shifts in 2 games and has had 2 scoring chances. He was also 2/2 on draws yesterday. He should’ve been in all playoffs instead of Boulton but he was coming off an injury.

11-0 and to swap out 2/3 bodies.
Can see it now. But I'd be hard pressed to mix it up unless Barkey comes back.
( yes I know a player or 3 may have more skill but it's about team )

Yes. He played Forward a few times this year. Slow but big. with a 4th line of 49-73-55 he doesn't need speed.
I'd rather have a slow Bolton than a slow Spencer if your mindset is skating doesn't matter for a 3rd wheel on line. Based on the seasons success.
Actually having a non skater could drastically reduce 2Fs effectiveness on any line 1-4 if they are strong skaters. Might help if the fit is good, might hurt alot and handicap a lines ability. Not the time to experiment to that extent. JMO

He played forward when there were no other options, having him play forward when there’s natural forwards available makes no sense.

I don’t mind Spencer as a 7th D and he can slot in if needed, but I don’t think we need to be making experimental lineups when they are 11-0 and 1 win away from a finals appearance.

Common man! Don't blame the victim.

The very reason for Romano trying to get away from the hit, was because of Woolley coming in for the hit. Woolley misjudged his movement, it wasn't intentional. Nevertheless, his action caused an injury, and good on the medics for being able to treat Romano so he could come back. Since these playoffs started, our London players have had their own departures and come back, O'Reilly in Owen Sound and Sim in London against Erie. Both players left the ice and came back to finish the game.

Regardless of whether Romano was serious or not, most players will try to draw a penalty, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Players have made it part of their game unfortunately, a good referee will not be influenced
What are you talking about ?? Man !
Iam not blaming Romano he saw the check coming tried to do what anyone would and sidestep it but couldn’t fully do it. Happens at the boards all the time .Always gonna be a penalty call but saying Wolley was trying to take his knee out etc is just bs along with a game suspension

To my knowledge he hasn't got a suspension (not posted on OHL site)? A kneeing penalty is a 2 or a 5+game. That was a dangerous hit and worth a 5 and a game, but don't think worthy of supplemental discipline. I think they got it just right.

Not gonna lie, if we get through the Kitchener Rangers. We might be offensively challenged compared to Oshawa.

Beckett Sennecke, Callum Ritchie, Colby Barlow and Luca Marrelli are beasts.

Their top end talent beats ours, and I think their offense beats ours as well.

We would need to stay out of the penalty box. They move the puck so well on the PP. Sennecke and Barlow blasting out one-timers on their off-wings are deadly.

If we have a shot, we will somehow need to get Barkey back.

I agree. Oshawa are on a mission. The only weakness I see is defensive play. The Knights (if they get there ) will have to play the trap and stay out of the box. Will need Barkey and Van Gorp back and (because of reputation) keep Boulton out of the lineup. Keep the turnovers to a minimum and get the pp back on track. Clear the puck out of the defensive zone and don’t get trapped like they have been at times and they will be OK. Don’t be cute and look for the highlight play. This team if they play the right way can win it But getting Barkey back is the key. If he can’t return the task will be difficult.

I do like what he brings. I feel he has more skill than Boulton

They are not on our level defensively

Exactly! Gotta play the mind games and play physical to get the Generals off their game.

Halttunen, Montgomery, Julien need to step up and be stars in the Finals. Especially Halttunen, we need him to start skating more and start being the beast he was last year. It’s not crazy to expect Halttunen to have the same impact that Colby Barlow would have on the Generals.

Gotta love how they announce the suspension on game day. What were the boys doing ALL YESTERDAY when they had 24 hours to review the play. What a league haha.

I assume Spencer is in. I will set his O/U at 5.5 shifts this game.....
It’s how they give out suspensions in the OHL. This thinking is direct from Dave Branch. Back in the day, Arbor Xhekaj, after the Woolley KO, waited all week after that game against Owen Sound and on the next game day, Friday at 5 PM, they notified the Rangers that he was suspended.

I listened to Fan590’s Roger Lajoie (sp)on a podcast a couple years ago. He said he sat in the room once while Dave Branch was deciding on a suspension. Branch and co decided the player in question would get X amount of games. Roger then said well let’s notify the team. Dave said no we let them wait. Roger said what do you mean? Branch said we let the player stir as part of the punishment.

So that is why the OHL waits till the last minute before notifying players whether or not they are suspended and for how long.

Branch comes across as quite the SOB, no? You’d think the league would shelf this practice in this world of mental illness, Terry Trafford, etc.

So that’s what I was unclear about. Is Woolly back tonight then ?

Would make sense as to why most of the Leagues On Ice Officials are brutal at their jobs then.
