Hitting the ice caused the injury..not the initial hit. I want consistency...if a suspected head hit gives you 5 and a game because an injury occurred..then a blatant head hit should surely warrant the same penalty even if the player shakes it off and skates away. Which was the case when Boqvist was hit in front of the London bench after Lochead's ejection. The entire London bench stood up and erupted and protested their displeasure...that doesn't happen on a clean hit

How could you possibly know that? Maybe it was both, but getting a shoulder square in the face is going to cause an injury.

I don't necessarily disagree that the hit on Boquist was a bad one, but two wrongs don't make a right. That does nothing to change my opinion on the Lochead hit.

But you said the league punishes head hits whether intended or not. clearly that isn't the case

There are certainly shades of grey here. Lochead took at least 4 strides and got him square in the face at full speed. Perhaps he meant to go lower, but it happened and he will be suspended.

Penalties for head checks are there for hits like the Boquist one. Maybe a one game suspension if they feel it is warranted.

I still want to know your definition of "several strides"

Because you can clearly see his head strike the ice in the game video. Cotter got a shoulder in the chest/chin area and had his head also hit the ice but he wasn't cut. Does blood = suspension

I saw his head hit the ice, but you have no way of knowing what caused the blood.

A shoulder to the face is the reason why Lochead is getting suspended. Yoi just can't do that. Those are they type of hits that end a player's career.

The injury occurred when the Guelph player hit his head on the ice. His helmet was not secured tightly and the visor was what cut him. No contact to the head at all. I can't argue that the player might have been in a vulnerable position.

I see more injuries year after year because the players don't have their chin strap tight enough to not have the helmet move when hit.
Have to call BS on this post, now you're really reaching 10-15 games

But Cotter also got a shoulder in the face and Samurukov was a hero

The video showed that Cotter did not get a shoulder in the face and the league confirmed it. People like seeing a good hit to the body, but if you go too high then the consequences can be bad for both parties. It's unfortunate what happened. We'll have to see what the league does and hope that the two can face each other again in the playoffs.

Cotter was hit in the head during the hit...he was knocked out cold before he hit the ice. That doesn't happen on a shoulder to chest hit. Samorukov's hit was clean..and I stated such, but I also feel Lochead's hit was clean with a less desirable outcome. Outcome shouldn't decide someone's fate in this situation

I have to call BS on you. The hit was no were near the head. If you watch the game video you don't see blood until he gets up off the ice. You can also see the helmet move while he is being hit. Watch the game replays and you'll see all that. if you don't then you might want to get your eyes checked.

It don't matter if Samorukov's head hit the ice or Lochead hit him on the head. The hit itself was unnecessary and very dangerous by hitting a compromised player like he did, it resulted in a serious head injury to a young man. Jones got ten for hitting an Owen Sound player in a compromised position and that player wasn't even severely injured. The league needs to protect it's players and sometime have to send strong messages. Lochead is a repeated offender and was suspended by the league several times since the start of his OHL career, I think he'll get 15 or more

Is the injury that severe if Samorukov is playing tonight?

I would like to thank Saginaw for leading Soo 5-1 in the third period so they would both be 4 points behind London but they would be getting closer to dropping down to third instead of second The boys gotta get their crap in gear FAST!!

They like to over inflate, because when he gets less they can scream "London Discount"

My mistake, I see he has one goal and one assist tonight against Erie. It looked serious when he left the ice but I spoke too soon without an injury report on Samorukov, I own it it's my error. It may bring his suspension down to 8-10 games as his hit was still dangerous and unnecessary
