OHL Draft Rankings - Top 80 Prospects #OHLDraft
Ryan McArthur Friday, February 08, 2019 ,A Very Barrie Colts Blog ,blog ,OHL ,OHL Draft
#5. Roman Schmidt, D, Don Mills Flyers (GTHL)** NCAA Commitment
Statistics:
Toronto Titans Prospect Tournament (Toronto, ON) – 6G & 4A for 10 points in 8 games
USA Hockey Select 15 Development Camp: 0G & 3A for 3 points in 4 games
International Silver Stick Tournament (Whitby, ON) – 1G, 6A for 7 points in 7 games
Comments:
Schmidt is absolutely massive. The tale of the tape has to be in the 6-5 or 6-6 range and well over 200 pounds. For such a big guy, he is quite nimble on his skates and has pretty quiet feet. Overall power and strength are his main strengths. His shot is an absolute cannon and he makes the puck very heavy. I’m surprised when his shot hits the glass or the boards that it doesn’t go right through.

Watching on OHL LIVESTREAM. Is Bouchard injured? He looks totally disinterested in the game tonight.

I've said it before. When we need a big save to keep us in the game, Razor usually gives us that. On the other hand, Kooy....

Maybe so, but couldn't make the big save we needed to keep us in the game. Never was sold on Kooy, now even less.
Holy shit...did you even watch the game? If it wasn't for some of the stops he made in the 2nd period Saginaw has 10 going into the room after 40. We get you don't like the kid...but don't make shit up for the sake of making yourself feel better

Last night Raaymakers let in 3 week goals.

Kooy made a number of massive saves tonight. Could have easily lost 12-3.

Edit: I should add I posted this before seeing PP31s comment.... we don't agree on a lot of things... so this should indicate how wrong you are.

Personally, I felt Kooy did exactly what any half decent goalie was supposed to do, namely, give his team a chance to win. He can't score the goals, but he sure as hell prevented plenty. Should Kooy get benched, how will that affect his confidence ?? If he is to become next season's # 1, you do NOT start by destroying his confidence. That's fragile enough in any goalie, at any level.

A couple of those Spirit goals came as a result of the d-men being gassed. Lochead put the team down by one, when tossed. Then Regula gets PP time as well as his regular shift, along with Bouchard & Boqvist. When that expires, only Keene & Coome are fresh enough to take a shift. Is it any wonder why Kooy was left to hold the fort with so little assistance ? This isn't on Kooy ! He was a victim of circumstances beyond his control, and the coaching strategy didn't compensate for Lochead's expulsion.

6-3 Saginaw over London, I think they will view this game as a wake up call

32 shots in the third and 58 for the game

Why ???

Why wait for the third to play hockey, they messed around for two periods and then toy around with Saginaw in the third and by then it's too late. Got to take the momentum early and hang on to it. And then Lochead get himself kicked out of the game leaving them short with only 5 defensemen to the end. If they are on the ice for more than 60 seconds their feet start dragging, the hardest thing to do is go down deep within to find strength to skate back for the defensive side of the puck and if they not at full capacity they become useless to the team. Start at your maximum power from the drop of the puck and keep rolling 4 lines often, try not to disturb the flow of the game. They need to keep their energy up at their highest level as possible, they can leave the better players on for maybe 20 seconds more or so. They have got to let their opponents know who they are dealing with right from the very beginning.

London do have a lot of problems when pushed or pressed in their end, all kind of mistakes happens and they start turning a lot pucks over. Why not send a message from the start, "if you want to play us you'll have to keep up to us" , this team is built on speed might as well use it for the whole game, should it be ! . IMHO from an armchair coach

Not to sound like a broken record but there was no TEAM defense. Saginaw had 49 shots on goal. If they were playing the dump and chase and pressure forecheck game, it would have been a different outcome. Stop throwing Kooy under the bus.

Agree to disagree, but if I’m Hunter I ride Razor the rest of the way. I do not trust Kooy. Hasn’t shown me he can single handedly win a game for us like Razor has.

Totally agree. It’s Razor crease from here on out. Gives us the best chance to go all the way. Kooy will have his chance next season.
