Demidov is a HAB
They're not converting a toolsy RD to a winger.
Hutson and a mobile, physical RD that is more defensive than offensive, but can at least make a good first pass is all we need for Hutson. It never hurts to try it. We are not married to that just because we tried it in a few games.
Agreed. I was thinking about this as well and I think we touched on this last summer as well. We need a rock pairing to lean on.
This may sound strange and out of nowhere but I would have Hutson with Xhekaj and we shelter that pairing as much as we can. Make no mistake, Hutson is going to be targeted physically more and more
That goal were Streit dangled chara is all time though LOLThis fanbase’s obsession with turning defencemen into forwards is crazy. Because Streit had no choice since Carbo was a moron? Or because of a lousy journeyman in Dandenault?

Guhle-Reinbacher would be a fine shutdown first pair to play against the opponents' best players. Game situations would determine whether we need to get Hutson out there a little more with us being a goal down, butbthat sounds like a good top-4.
Xhekaj-Mailloux would make a good 3rd pairing, IMO.
This would also keep the cost for the D-Corps within the 35M-37M range on a 113M Cap coming up within three years.
Add 8M for Gs and that leaves around 70M for the forwards, giving us the ability to pay handsomely for a top-6 and still have an average fo 3.5M per player on the bottom-6 if we go with 12 forwards and 1.3M in IR room, with Laval not very far from Montreal for call-ups.
The future looks bright for the Habs IF HUGHES CAN SLOT IN THE RIGHT PLAYERS AT A GOOD PAYDAY.
I think the best bet going forward with who we have isGuhle-Reinbacher is actually the pair I want to see. A shutdown pair that could face other teams top lines
They turned from forwards to defencemen. You don’t take a player whose asset is outlet passes and slap shots and nullify that by making him a forward because you don’t like the way he plays D. Just teach him how to play D.Because Byfuglien and Brent Burns are examples of big physical RH guys that played both positions, and Mailloux looks like he could replicate?
I agree, but I think it's why it comes up.They turned from forwards to defencemen. You don’t take a player whose asset is outlet passes and slap shots and nullify that by making him a forward because you don’t like the way he plays D. Just teach him how to play D.

I think Hutson is on pair 1 and likely the 1D of this team. There are flaws on our D that need to be sorted out. I will omit Carrier and Matheson because the purpose of this is what it looks like in 2/3+ years.
Guhle / Reinbacher: Takes the big load on both sides of the ice but more like 60/40 split favoring the D zone
Hutson / Mobile Stud: Hutson is going to need a rock to rely on physically but that guy can't suck at skating and has to have some offensive skills. This may be a hole we never fill (Hopefully not true). R Andersson is a great fit here! If he reaches UFA, go all in for him. If he is available in a trade, engage big time!
Xhekaj / Engstrom or Mailloux: There is potential here (I agree). Mailloux and Xhekaj did play AHL together last year and looked good. Some chemistry there. Engstrom is not one to forget about either though.
Hutson's partner:
* R Anderssson fits best
* Not sure I like the Pulock solution. I think he is a candidate to slip in 30+ years because of skating.
* S Jones? Most will say no (just like they did with Dubois) but the Werenski/Jones pairing was very good with the Blue Jackets. You can probably get Jones for cheap and with retention as well. Not attractive and I get that but it could end up well. A little bit of a reach with this option I will admit. Might not want to be in Montreal with his NMC as well.
* Nemec. If he is available and it's a price we can afford, make it happen! If he forces his way onto the line-up, they might trade Hamilton and he might fit well with Hutson. 3 more years in term after this year taking him to 35. Probably not ideal for our timeline
Could be.I think the best bet going forward with who we have is
Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle-Mailloux
I think Hutson is on pair 1 and likely the 1D of this team.
I also think it's clear that Mailloux has strong NHL upside on the offensive side but needs to work on the defensive side of his game. I still think he can be a top 4
That bottom pairing is a prescription for chaos in our defensive zone. Xhekaj must be paired with defensive partner who has superior mobility. Playing him with Mailloux will mean the team will have great difficulty exiting our zone.Could be.
The way that Guhle and Carrier played so well together and had chemistry immediately, makes me think we will see:
Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Carrier
Xhekaj - Mailloux
Agreed.........it's an issue less this year than it has been, but some nights we are hemmed in and we need all of our D to be mobile, and move the puck out. Not sure if The Sherriff, and Mailloux are a good pair. That bottom pairing is a prescription for chaos in our defensive zone. Xhekaj must be paired with defensive partner who has superior mobility. Playing him with Mailloux will mean the team will have great difficulty exiting our zone.
Rasmus Andersson has begun to slow down over the past couple of seasons. His offensive game and skating are starting to be effected. Imo he's similar in what David Savard was when we got him albeit more offensive but less defensively inclined. He could be a solid partner for Lane for a year or two and then moved down to the 3rd pairing, but I'm not in the "go all in" on him like some. With his modified NTC, not sure we're on it and the following year he becomes a FA. Being his last deal he'll want to max out on what that will be, so I'm not sure it's the right move for us.There are flaws on our D that need to be sorted out. I will omit Carrier and Matheson because the purpose of this is what it looks like in 2/3+ years.
