Maybe it just shows how weak the level of play in the OHL is?Great to see that even after being off for almost 2 years he's still a ppg defenceman in the ohl
While his offensive prowess and potential have always been obvious, Mailloux’s defensive awareness is growing noticeably. He’s much more judicious in his efforts to be physical and is using his combination of excellent skating, size and reach to seal off offensive threats and protect his net. Mailloux is now a smothering presence for the Knights and is used by Hunter in all high leverage situations. While Mailloux is quickly becoming a dominant player in the OHL , the question remains, as it does with all young players, can he repeat this dominance at the NHL level. I would suggest that if he remains healthy Mailloux will develop into that top level defenceman that all teams are searching for.He was on the ice for all 3 of his team's goals and named first star. Seems to be settling in nicely.
With only 20 total games of OHL experience it is imperative he stay healthy this season and dominates. While his offensive prowess and potential have always been obvious, Mailloux’s defensive awareness is growing noticeably. Will play some games in Montreal next year. I think he will actually play a lot of games. Edmunston (who apparently can play the right side) will be gone, and Mailloux is already a vastly superior player than Kovacevic and Wideman. Unless Barron takes a major step this year, Mailloux is leapfrogging him on the roster next year. With only 20 total games of OHL experience it is imperative he stay healthy this season and dominates.
The question will be if he comes back to London as an overager next season or makes the jump to pro hockey.
His playing only 20 games over the past two years really shows in Mailloux’s conditioning as he displays fatigue and a noticeable if not marked drop off in his level of performance towards the ends of his shifts. His loss of playing time has really hindered this excellent young player’s development. One can only wonder what his level of development would be today for not the COVID interruption, his suspension and major injury. If his current developmental trajectory continues uninterruptedly, there is no way this kid is going back to the OHL. But that is a big ‘if’.With only 20 total games of OHL experience it is imperative he stay healthy this season and dominates.

Haha fair enoughMaybe it just shows how weak the level of play in the OHL is?
Its not about the points. Its about Mailloux’s on ice presence. Of all his attributes, one of the most impressive skills that Mailloux has is his first pass. Its the most impressive first pass I’ve seen in a Montreal prospect since Subban early this decade and Chelios in the early 80s. Mailloux can send a laser beam pass over two zones that is directly on a moving teammates’s stick. He passes the puck harder than some players can shoot a puck. The difficulty is that many of the recipients of these passes are not skillful enough to receive them cleanly. That won’t be the case when he is playing with superior players in the NHL. In my opinion Mailloux is clearly Montreal’s best prospect. And its not even close.Great to see that even after being off for almost 2 years he's still a ppg defenceman in the ohl
Haven‘t seen much of him during past two seasons. Before the draft, the main doubts were regarding the defensive side of his game. Because he moves the puck very well, in Sweden he was overconfident sometimes too. I hope he keeps scoring points and corrects these points. If he does he can be a steal. Will play some games in Montreal next year. I think he will actually play a lot of games. Can't believe that Habs got this guy 31st overall.
Are they using him on the PP or to kill penalties? Can he do a slapper?I was at the game last night and I was impressed with Mailloux. It was my first time seeing him playing live. He’s a great skater. Effortless skater like he is sliding on the ice. The most impressive part of his game was those long crisp pass he made all night. 50-60-70 pass right on tape. He looked like a men among teens last night.
When I watched the draft live, I couldn't believe it too. Can't believe that Habs got this guy 31st overall.
He was probably on the ice for 30-35 minutes last night. Yes, he killed penalties and he was on the PP. He also scored a wonderful goal at the end of the game but the goal was refused after review because the play was off-side.Are they using him on the PP or to kill penalties? Can he do a slapper?
Appreciate the info, thanks! He was probably on the ice for 30-35 minutes last night. Yes, he killed penalties and he was on the PP. He also scored a wonderful goal at the end of the game but the goal was refused after review because the play was off-side.
Wowww, music to my ears. Please watch him more and share your thought with us, that would be appreciated. Its not about the points. Its about Mailloux’s ice presence. What? Dude committed a crime and publicly requested not to be drafted. How is it surprising we "got" him at 31st??? He might turn into an excellent player, but he's a legacy of a terrible regime. Would most likely never have been drafted under the current one. Anyways, i guess it's ok to be cautiously optimistic. Can't believe that Habs got this guy 31st overall.
