Logan Mailloux, Defenseman (Laval Rocket):
A first-round selection (31st overall) by Montreal at the 2021 NHL Draft, Logan Mailloux has played every one of the Rocket’s first 70 games this season and has registered 14 goals and 33 assists for 47 points, the most by an AHL rookie defenseman since Sami Niku (54) in 2017-18. Mailloux, a 21-year-old native of Belle River, Ont., participated in the 2024 AHL All-Star Classic and made his NHL debut with the Canadiens on Tuesday.

I think he needs to put in a little more work with his skating but he seems like the type to be extremely intimidating to play against down the line. If he can continue to improve his skating over the next few years I see a Jeff Petry type player.
I thought his skating was one of his assets?

Does Mailloux play AHL next year? And I can't wait for Xhekaj either. I think we really can use a guy like that and he's not without talent. We've got some exciting prospects to watch at last. We've usually only got one or two prospects of value in Laval. Laval is gonna have a great team soon.
Exactly. This is a true development system finally. After this we do the same with ECHL, which would then effectively house our 3rd team.
A true pathway to any draftpick, all of which (4th round+) players will be asking to be drafted by the Habs.

Logan Mailloux at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase. It starts September 4th 2024.

33 NHL prospects and rookies will be there.
From watching just about every AHL game that Mailloux played last season I believe he is the most intriguing prospect in the organization. If he reaches his potential he will be over the top dominant! A player I would not trade.

I'm huge fan of him. If he continue to develop his all around game, this guy, will be a pleasure to watch.

We talk about Guhle, Reinbacher and Hutson, but this guy, can be easily in that conversation. What he doing in junior after missing 1 year of hockey, impressive. What he do in his 1st year of AHL, impressive.

This guy can be a total beast!!

This is the most intriguing prospect that the Habs have. A kid who barely played 100 OHL games comes in and puts up 47 points as a Dman in his first pro season...that's impressive! His defensive game became much better as the season wore on. Don't be so quick to add him into some crazy trade idea! This kid is going to be a bad ass.

I mean... we got DR, Mailloux, Barron on the right side... and?? So I don't get the trade talks for any of the 3.

There was some interesting comment Bouillon at the end of the season. He said that the team is starting to think that his ceiling might be higher then they thought. My interpretation, mixed with my views of Mailloux, is that they think he might have top pair potential.

I really don't get the lack of respect he's getting right now. So few are pencilling Montréal. I mean, they guy did everything he needed to do in AHL, what else can we ask from him.

I would be very surprised if he doesn't start in the NHL after a full season in the AHL which he was amazing in.

About our RD depth, there is also Bogdan Konyushkov who personally I rank ahead of Barron.

Not sure what you are talking about, seems to me the board here is very high on this kid. Much more than Barron in fact

100% agree with you!

His first NHL game, he played a solid two-way game. Great vision, passing, shooting, can hit.

He just need to continue in that way, diamond in the rough.

True but Bogdan isn't here for 3 years. Wouldn't be surprised if they resign Savard but you still need someone until then

Hfboard isn't the only place that talks hockey. And even here, a quick glance at the line up thread would have shown you that the majority doesn't have Mailloux in their top6

what's your top 6 with Mailloux in the lineup? maybe they put Struble in the AHL if Mailloux has a great camp but there are other roster moves that have to be made in order for Mailloux or even Reinbacher to make the team out of camp, and those moves are unlikely to happen until a good portion of the season has been played.
not having Mailloux in the projected top 6 isn't indicative of what people think of him, it's just being realistic.

Hutson - Savard
Xhekaj - Mailloux

Struble - Barron

could happen. i would be surprised if they go with 8 defencemen.
i don't think they would put Hutson or Mailloux in a position to be part of a healthy scratch rotation where they draw in and out of the lineup. i think that's Barron and Struble's territory. with that assumption, only one of Hutson or Mailloux will make the team out of camp and my money is on Hutson, with a trade coming later in the season to make room for Mailloux, unless an injury happens first.

I’m much more impressed with Struble than Barron, at this point. Unless Barron has put on muscle over the summer and brings an adage to his game, I’m in the for sale camp.

Well, given the history of the past few years, I'm guessing what is more likely to happen :)

Guhle-Barron
Matheson-Mailloux
Xhekaj - Savard
Struble

is what I think.

There's a difference between not being high and not having having Mailloux in the NHL. I said I was surprised with the later.

Mailloux was the last cut of the camp, the only prospect to make it to Tremblant. Fallowed that with an impressive season, named to the AHL all-star, the AHL rookie team, etc. What else could you asked of him at the AHL level lol. That's my point
