5:00 pm. Strange starting time. I wonder why. Informal talks to take, say, eight hours? Maybe an announcement for the 11:00 o'clock news?? Wishful thinking, probably.

At what point does the season get cancelled?

Im curious as I'm hoping they do and some of teams fold. The league has become too diluted and needs to lose some teams and have a redisbursal draft.I have talked to a lot of fans who just don't really care anymore.I never heard that last time.Maybe the abuse of fans has gone a little too far this time?

Probably within the next couple of weeks if no deal is struck.

The previous full season cancellation occurred around Valentine's Day I think

it's been stated a season can start no later then Janruary 19th so 7 days for camp and a couple of days to ratify the new deal were looking roughly 11th of Janruary.

he said no more than 5 years, no matter what the cba says.

Burke said last year that he doesn't have a problem with long term deals as long as they do not circumvent the cap. He will sign for players for over 5 years I bet. Who knows with Burke anyway, he changes his views hourly.

Yea, training camps would need to start no later than the 12th. You're right.

But for that to happen, the owners now have basically 9 days to finalize their rosters, including bringing players back from Europe, signing some players that include key RFA's and also the schedule has to be drawn up which includes booking of ice times, etc.. There just seems so much to be done and so little time.

The damage isn't much for the bread and butter franchises for the league.

There is irreparable damage being done to the teams of the Sunbelt and America where hockey is just a niche sport.

I really hope that there's a shortened season, and we come last overall.

Bring on Mackinnon and figure out who is part of the losing culture on this team, and get them out of here.

Rather intense suffering for a shortened period than an extended period of time.

If a deal can't be struck with such a small reported gap, this would be even more ridiculous than this entire lockout put together.

God I hope they settle.

Has the union decertified yet? have all players become free agents yet? have we signed Crosby yet?

I actually have given up hope for hockey this year. Also, even if they return it will be, what, like 40 game season? what garbage.

I do believe we are close, but are some insiders saying that, progress has been made?

It would likely be 48 game schedule like 94-95

And IMO that isn't garbage ,, Whatever team wins cup will still have to fight its way thru the most grueling tourney in sports

Teams who could be in trouble...

Certainly one of the Florida teams,Nashville,Phoenix,Anaheim maybe Carolina. What others may see drastic attendance drops? For me I would like to see 5 or 6 fold but we all know Bettman would hate that. One has to wonder if the richer teams will want to carry 5 or 6 Phoenix's forever. When the US dips back into recession mode it may really shake things up as in many US cities hockey is not a priority.

You cant just fold teams

NHL would need to buy them from current ownership and pay city/arena's a ton of $$$ to break leases

We would be looking at likely around 1B in costs for NHL to fold 5/6 teams

And when the Cnd dollar slips someday (Probably not soon though) back into abyss ,, Will you support removal of all the Cnd teams that Bettman/NHL saved once before?
