They were saying that if the mediator felt like he couldn't help, he would have left already.

We'll start to see more information on monday after they meet in courts to deal with the motion that the NHLPA put up to stop the NHL from saying that the vote was unfair...or some crap along those lines.

Wednesday is the deadline for me. I think that if the courts aren't going to step in and say anything, then we know what will happen if both sides are going to try and do something.

If the players will indeed vote on the most recent NHL offer prior to negotiations shutting down and the season being cancelled, I am sure we will have a season.

If the players don't vote, then who knows.

It definitely feels like the arguing is costing them way more than they would gain if they got their way. Stupid, but not unexpected.

i can not figure out for the life of me why they can't find an arbitrator to decide it? They're pissing away money every day in which they'd both be getting a share of and at least that way neither side would have to take full blame due to taking a weaker deal (the way the players did last season).

Why not just sign a one year deal as close as they can get and continue bargaining for an actual off-season? This way they can all still make money, find a way to figure things out, and the fans are happy. Instead, they'd rather lose billions of dollars and keep thousands of people out of jobs. Doesn't make any sense from a rational stand point.

The pension plan and continued to be determined during a season. It's not like they can't come to a preliminary agreement just to get back on the ice.

I think the rationale is that neither side is willing to give a major concession without the backs being against the wall. The NHL seems to feel they can only get what they want during a lockout.

Exactly. Give them a full year to come up with an agreement, and it will still come down to the last week of the deadline.

i still think we have had progress today, despite no face to face negotiations today
mediator meetings still on going right now, if it wasn't leading anywhere, he would have left, like someone mentioned already.

the biggest issue IMO is pensions, when that is solved, everything will fall into place, term contracts, nhl will move to 7 years, IMO, plus cba term opt out, someone will listen to other party

not worried at the moment, there will be a season, just it will probably go right down to the deadline

I would think it was the lower tier guys that are most concerned. Assuming it's Sidney Crosby and Ovechkin is putting a spin on it.
You often hear people exclaim that the NHLPA is only trying to protect the superstars with the new CBA bargaining but the pension is one of many factors where all the players, especially the lesser names, are looking for the best deal possible.
I just wonder if Bettman is going to get a pension even though he makes $8 million a year?

Right. I wonder why even the lower tier guys would need a pension, considering even they make 4 times as much as our prime minister yearly. I feel like its a major stumbling block in the negotiations, yet feels like a slap in the face of the fans by locking out the season.....so they can get pensions after making millions and millions after their career is dont. And, there would be no pensions for players that only played a year or two, so we are talking about players that have been in the league long enough to make a fortune anyway.

And, I am also wondering about the same thing as you about if Betman will be getting that pension too. We pay all this crap, no one else, just the fans. Some would say that the sponsors also pay a certain amount, but if there is no fans, there would be no need for sponsors. Although, we also kind of pay to the sponsors. I drink Canadian, have a bell satellite and a rogers plan. Its all money. Its all greed between players and owners. I think Fehr is the anti christ of hockey. He is paid by union and the longer he works for them, the more money he makes.
