Appears like the minute the midnight deadline passed to file the "disclaimer of interest" by the NHLPA,that Bettman and Owners felt the pressure to negotiate a deal was off.

A new vote and new deadline might light a new fire under some butts as I highly doubt that a 2nd deadline 48hrs from now will pass and the players decide for a 2nd time to pass on filing.

That would be an interesting thing for the Leafs to do. Ask for a first rounder or two from the Islanders. Wang needs the money. He won't turn it down.

Burke has done things like this before, albeit at a smaller scale. This is a rare, great opportunity for the Leafs. The last lockout they really dropped the ball.

I like your enthusiasm but do you really see the Islanders burning two first round picks which could be first overall just to get rid of a bad contract?

The habs do have 3 or 4 contracts that they'd be happy to nix; Gomez, Markov and Kaberle but do you see them making a deal with us?

Perhaps a top 3 protected clause in the NYI case, and yes I can see Wang taking the much needed savings to get out of that contract.

Regarding the Gomez trade, Montreal and Toronto have been trading partners before. The Habs desperately need to slash payroll and in this case I think they accept.

I'd have to double check but assuming the cap hit is still average length of the contract, Komisarek's will be higher than DiPietros 4.667

Are any of you guys aware that in order to buyout Dipietro it would cost MLSE $24 million dollars paid out over the next 16 years ?

The amnesty clause only allows it not to count against the teams cap but someone still has to pay 2/3rds his balance remaining which would be $24 mil to go away.
