Post-Game Talk: Literally shooting yourself in the foot

Rob Brown was defending him.

Skinner could shoot it in the net and Rob Brown would blame Ekholm for not racing down there to knock it off so it didnt count
Ngl, Rob Brown could be the all-time goal and points leader and I'd still legitimately think this guy has never put on a pair of skates before with some of his takes. Skinner's parents must have some serious blackmail on every single Edmonton sports media person.

Well that was quite the shitty game. Crowd pumped up to start, Oilers come out very tentative, but still manage to get a couple of quick ones on a leaky Hill. And then decide to not test him for the next 50 minutes, basically going thru the motions, with no intensity, losing 3/4 of the puck battles in every zone. Drai was awful for the second straight game, looked like a 100 year old man with back problems out there, slow as molasses, with just awful no look passes. And I won't even mention the debacle between the pipes, it likely was mentioned once or twice here already I assume. So disappointing that they didn't have a killer instinct in this one. Two out of three now that Vegas has been the better team, not trending in the right direction.

DRai was even on the night and had two EV assists and was on ice for only two GA. Not 3, in anycase.

Jam line didn't have a good night tonight and Janmark -2. Nurse and Kulak had rough nights despite Nurse making some good defensive plays.

I'm gonna defend our good players. You know thats my DNA.
Team didn’t play well tonight but a large part of that is due to Skinner.

But that doesn’t excuse lazy giveaways by our star players either.

If Pickard isn't ready for game 4 then Rodrigue has to play, Skinner cannot start

Regardless as to whether you want to blame him or not the team can't play close to their best in front of him because they're terrified any tiny mistake will end up in their own net.

This team is like a zombie though, never f***ing dies. Imo they're probably the hardest out in sports. You can put 6 bullets in their chest and they'll bounce right back up.

If Pickard is back, I think we can move past this.
If pickard is back yes
If we have to rely on skinner who lets in so many deflating goals it won’t matter if we bounce back from those 6 bullets because skinner will just let in the next shot because he can’t seem to make that game changing save

Skinner is not fit to be an nhl goalie. All he has to do was stay in position. Instead he took himself totsll out of the net. Just junior lvl goaltending
Skinner taking himself out of the net is the reason why Smith had no angle and was shooting wide. I don't think it was inherently a bad play. If Draisaitl doesn't tip that in we're not even talking about it.

The goal that I didn't like was the first one. Seemed like a nothing shot from the boards and Skinner lost the rebound and gave Vegas a tap in. Really sucked the energy out of the building and turned the tide of the game.

Hopefully Pickard is ready for game four!

I know everyone’s shitting on skinner but Knob is equally blamed. You’re at home crowd is BUZZING probably getting the next call play for OT..

This take basically doesn't understand hockey. See Drai there at net trying to prevent a last second goal. its where Skinner is supposed to be, you know, a goalie, in his crease. The only reason Drai is at net there is because his goalie completely Abrogated his responsibilities

This is on Skinner.
I'll ask you what I asked the other guy, what level did you play?

Stone injured. Saad injured. Dorofeyev playing hurt is indication how hurting Vegas are for goals. Meanwhile Barbashev is AWFUL right now and so is Hertyl. They are botching ANY play, Even against Skinner.

Meanwhile Eichel rarely scores in playoffs and if nobody else is finishing then what?

Vegas got two goals from Reilly tonight, another from Roy and another from Karlsson. Lets just say these are unlikely scoring events. Reilly particularly had his Connor Brown moment. he couldn't make that play again if he tried it 20X. Sometimes its just out of ordinary things occurring. AND Skinner being in net, the great slumpbuster.

Something tells me the Oilers play a better game in game 4 and get it done. Vegas have a monumental task and especially with the injuries.

So to sum up the woe is us Knights, who have apparently been done in by the league - The guy who should have been suspended for multiple games for a vicious crosscheck scores a goal, the dman who we were told was basically on life support played 20 minutes, the guy who purposely injured our goalie was allowed to play, and the only guy to miss any action was our goalie. So as usual we end up as the only team that got screwed over.

Shades of game 1 against LA. You have Draisaitl and McDavid expending all kinds energy to tie it up late and don’t bother guiding it to OT. Same thing tonight. Knob should not be putting his 2 worst defensive forwards out there with time winding down. Lots of boneheaded mistakes in this one.
It’s not a good look when you don’t learn from your mistakes. That’s the same thing I originally soured on Woodcroft for.

Let's be real, Skinner is the one shooting the gun in this analogy. 😂

I just saw the highlights. When the announcer said "Skinner" on the first Vegas goal, I at first thought, "Wow, that guy screwed up! He got mixed up with Pickard and Skinner."

Then, I realized Stu was actually playing!

Poor Skinner, the guy can't catch a break this season. I can't fault him on goals 2 and 4, but what was he flopping around for on goal 1? Also goal 3 seemed stoppable.

I would like to give Stu the benefit of the doubt, but he just hasn't been good enough this season. Of 20 goalies who've appeared in at least three playoff games this season, Stu is 20th in save-percentage. Now, Cal-Pick is 12th (with .888 -- far worse than Stu in last year's playoffs), so it shows that (a) Pickard probably hasn't been as good as some people think (but I guess it's all relative) and (b) You don't need to post a .920 every night for the Oilers to have a chance to win.

But there is something obviously going wrong with Stu is in net this season -- it's like the team is waiting for him to fail... waiting, waiting... until there are 0.4 seconds left, in tonight's case. But it's just inevitable.

Anyway, if you have to lose, this is a pretty good way to lose. The Oil actually got off to a 2-0 start, which is incredible given the recent standard. The Power-play finally came through. McDavid scored. And, best of all, they scored another late-goal to tie, which is something obviously in Vegas's heads now. They just know that no lead is safe against Edmonton.

The Oilers always play best when they're pissed or down. (Conversely, they're always at their worst when they're in a comfortable position.) So, I would expect an angry Oilers in game four.

Don't forget that we also have Stuart Skinner playing goal for us.
