I’d have a lot more sympathy if it was an actual tournament of note and not a glorified all-star game that the NHL is vainly trying to turn into something serious.

As it stands, does anyone think that this will have any kind of lasting historical legacy?

I don’t hear a lot of people reminiscing fondly about the final of the last World Cup between Team Europe and Canada.

These days, when the NHL tries to do international hockey without the IIHF being involved in any real capacity, they f*** it up.

The owners are in the asset management business...I'm not sure what the numbers will look like but I'd think that maybe 1/3rd of nhl salary will be there. Every guy that comes back injured cost his owner money. And you can get the extreme example like us where you have a Hasek situation

Carvajal, Rodri injuries show top players have too many games. Are national teams to blame?

Spain's first home game since winning Euro 2024 will see them without two of their captains, Dani Carvajal and Rodri, due to long-term injuries caused by burnout. Is there a way to fix this mess?

Part of the issue is that they keep adding club games to the schedule through additional exhibitions, Cups etc. while also expanding international tournaments to have more teams and potentially more games.

The big difference is that international competition is part of the culture of European and South American sport and it isn’t in North America.

They may gripe about it but they will never do away with it.

There is no body-checking in football.

Linus injury nagged him during training camp and into the season and now again. I think this is clear indication that he may have come to the Senators with a bit of a nagging lingering injury to begin with.

Nevertheless, his paycheck is paid by the Ottawa Senators. This four nation's tournament doesn't help us get into the playoffs.Linus only concern should be suiting up for the Senators and nothing more. That's what pays his bills.

If you're having a healthy year and in the right position, I understand. That's not the case here and it should not even be a question. Even if he comes back, feeling 100% and playing at 100%, this is a season where he could use that extra time off to heal the body.

It's not like he's going to play in the Olympics or even some kind of world Cup for championship. This is the equivalence of winning the beer league and my eyes.

He's got no business going to this thing in his current state. If he gets injured here and his season is over.....

I don't want him playing much at the 4 Nations. Not sure how many games he'll see considering they have two other very capable starters in Gustavsson and Markstrom.

He should be playing ZERO games in that tournament. We're not paying him to represent his country's team during the season, and at the rate he's missing games for us there should be no way he plays on the national squad only so he can get more injured and miss more games for us. The individual hockey clubs should have veto powers on whether their players participate in such competitions during the season. Staios needs to put his foot down and tell him to take the time to heal up properly and comeback and perform for the team thats dishing out millions for his intermittent services so far.

Hell no. Our season rests on his shoulders right now and we need him to play healthy and consistently to even have a shot at a playoff berth after 8 years of waiting. At such a critical point in the year and him constantly in and out of the lineup, he should rest and recoup to give us the best chance at making it, not playing for Sweden on our dime and risk another injury and sinking our very slim chances of making the cut in years. Without him, we're sunk, not worth taking the chance on that.

Only 3 goalies played at least 60 games last year. 50-55 should be the target.

I saw these three guys at the Sweden vs Finland game at the WJC.
Alfredsson, Ullmark ( wearing a tuque), and Anton Forsberg ( wearing a baseball cap backwards).which is usually an idiot detector.

If he has not recovered and played for the Senators by then, he should NOT play for his country.

The team is in quite a pickle without Ullmark. We don’t have backups who can consistently keep the opposition to 3 or less goals, and we don’t have an offense that can consistently score more than 3 goals.

This team at its best wins 3-2. That’s possible with Ullmark.

Without? Not so sure.

Something will need to be done if this is a few weeks. Either get a better backup, or get someone who can score in the top 6.

What kind of GM is Staios going to be? We’ve done well in the first 40 games in that we’re right in the thick of the wildcard. But here come the dog days and injuries are starting to pile up.

Will he help the team?

I’m not talking about a major move, but he needs to add depth here. With how the Rangers have tanked, there’s a clear opening in the East.

Losing that spot to any of Columbus, Montreal, Detroit, Philly, NYI or Pittsburgh would be a disaster. Those are all teams that we should be ahead of, right now. If we’re not, what are we doing?

Yup, nobody in house gives much confidence atm. Not feeling great about their chances long term here if Ullmark ends up on the shelf for long. Would be shitty to be done in by goaltending again but simply from unavailability. Stringing wins together and keeping pace is gonna be tough.

I also will be very annoyed if he's at the 4 nation's cup after all this. Make the right choice and sit it out.
