I dont think huberdeau sharangovich kuz will work at all, they are all slow and are not puck carriers. Worst of all, i think all 3 are not good defensively. Huberdeau as soon as he gets the puck he stops moving, forces a pass turns the puck over. Sharangovich handles the puck like a grenade in transition and turns the puck over. Kuz idk, im just told hes slow and not good defensively. That line would get destroyed in any transition game.

It will take 2 shifts for people to realize that line will never work. Zary, Schwindt and Rooney will rotate the open C slots until the team finds something that works or picks up another C.

This would've been a great opportunity for Dube if he wasn't involved in that shit. Conroy should be looking around the league to find a C who can be acquired for cheap that hasn't had much opportunity or has struggled on another team.

It only "works" if you put them in the softest starts possible and try to inflate their stats to up their value.

In terms of winning games or competing it is a terrible line but that isn't, or at least shouldn't be, the goal. Let's artificially pump up Sharangovich and Kuzmenko (not team will ever take Huberdeau) value and try to dump them on a dummy GM for an overpay.

If it was the same interview I saw, I don't recall him being that definate on who they may try at that role. He did mention Schwindt and that both Zary and Pospisil consider themselves as centres and they he may try them there 'later'.

Lots of speculation about who will replace Lindholm at center. Everyone is forgetting about the player the Flames have kept in reserve for just this exact situation.... Kevin Rooney.
Here you all thought this was a stupid signing by Treliving but in fact he was playing 3d chess and he's 3 moves ahead of everyone else.

He started the season with 14 points in 16 games, but Tocchet didn't like it. So in the end Kuzmenko hasn't learned to play Tocchet's hockey and stopped scoring. But it's pretty typical story for NHL, where most coaches prefer to squeeze players into their systems and not adapt their systems to players.

You can say that Vancouver has been doing great under Tocchet, and yes it has. But how many times did we see these kind of "system teams" just completely fell apart after one or two successful seasons? I'd say there were countless examples.
Adjusting system to players is fine when have multiples of a certain style

Kuz was the only forward that couldnt adapt - one

With that said love him.. hope he scores 50 for you
Backlund and Coleman are fancy stat gods and the Kadri line has received sheltered offensive minutes this entire season, seems obvious anyone going from those lines to Lindholm’s fancies would suffer. This also ignores that xG% is a line stat not an individual player stat and all year Lindholm has been saddled with bad 5v5 defenders in Mangiapane, Sharangovich and Huberdeau. Just as nobody thought Backlund’s play was slipping when his fancy stats tumbled playing with Huberdeau, you can’t put the onus on Lindholm for his linemates and usage.

At an individual production rate, every players numbers go up or are at their highest paired with Lindholm. You are using entangled stats to make individual assessments. For example, when Sharangovich was potting all those goals and assists, were you claiming his play was actually dropping because his fancy stats were suffering?
Be interesting to see x% indicators like shot location when lindholm is on the ice

Rooney will be the 4th line center, which no one has adequately filled. Rooney isnt going to be playing top 6.

The more I think about it, the best case scenario could be pairing Kuzmenko with the Zary-Kadri duo, while breaking up the Backlund-Coleman pairing as sacrilegious as that seems.

Huberdeau-Rango-Coleman
Zary-Kadri-Kuzmenko
Pelletier-Backlund-Mangiapane

Kuzmenko gets two speedy transition players to cover his flaws and he gives them an Uber talented offensive piece to play with. That line continues to get extremely friendly offensive minutes to help boost Kuzmenko’s production and/or value. Huberdeau gets the closest iteration to his successful Florida line with Rango being the speedy shooter (Duclair) and Coleman being the crash and bang chaotic player (Bennett but smart), while Coleman gets rewarded with an offensive deployment for the season he’s having (while also being the lines defensive conscious). Pelletier and Backlund just seem like a match made in heaven, and while that lines effectiveness goes down losing the Backlund-Coleman duo it could be a net positive in the lineup.

As an aside, can we all agree not to give Kuzmenko the Toffoli treatment? His name was dragged through the mud after the trade saying what a waste of a 1st he was, before “shockingly” once he adapted to his new home and had a camp under his belt and a stable role, he exploded. Very likely Kuzmenko doesn’t come out of the gates hot as well adjusting to a new team/role. I am excited for what he could do for our powerplay though once some chemistry forms.

I think Brzustewicz is going to shock most posters here and play games next season in the NHL. Not a full season, but multiple games. Those saying his defense is bad are incorrect. He has no shot, but he's an amazing passer and has great hockey IQ. He defends pretty well at the junior level and while his top end speed isn't exceptional he's very agile and has a good first step.

Flamesnation got to talk to Craig Conroy about the Lindholm trade. Really cool of Craig to join a podcast that doesn't even have 10,000 subs atm.

Barn Burner is a newish podcast, these 3 previously had the most popular radio show in Calgary before branching out on their own. Also Rhett and Connie were teammates for a few years on the Flames.

Basically what Lunatik said, but also they're part of the Nation Network of stuff, which is at least reasonably well known throughout hockey circles (they have specific team sites for Flames, Canucks, Oilers, Leafs, and the MLB Blue Jays, as well as Daily Face Off and HockeyFights). So sure, the Flames specific one has less than 10k subs, but they're well known overall as media guys (and yeah, having Rhett there who was also a player definitely helps credibility and getting connections)

Ah thanks, makes sense. I've been listening to them for a month or two now and didn't know they were already well known. Also, was unaware Rhett was a player lol.
