That KA wasn’t shown the door along with Granato was a portend to this hire. Firing Granato was a knee jerk PR move. It didn’t come from a lucid examination of the organization. Of those available he checks a lot of boxes. I guess it could be worse. Besides KA avoided embarrassing Terry having other candidates say “Thanks, but no thanks.”
My initial opinion still holds. Lindy hasn’t lost the room, he never had it in the first place. The players know he was lipstick on a pig and nothing else changed. Without a full on restructuring of the front office and hockey ops I see no reason to believe anything will change.

Was curious what I posted when this hire was made.

.......yup. I still get why we made the hire. But not allowing Lindy to bring in his own assistants is inexcusable.
The thing is, Ruff is complicit in this. Adams has stated it was Ruff’s choice. So, either Adams is lying or Ruff was not only willing to take the job under absurd conditions (2 yr deal, no picking his own staff), but he is also willing to let his GM lay the blame for the assistants at his feet. Either way, both need to go. If I had my choice between Adams and Ruff returning or running the roster back with a new GM and HC (and coaching staff), I would take the latter and it’s not close. I have seen two years of what Adams thinks smart off-season moves are. It’s a disaster. I would bet on these players turning it around with a new GM and HC before I would bet on Adams and Ruff.

Adams is lying. Fini.

Then Ruff is pathetic, agreeing to coach a team with no control over who the assistants are AND allowing the GM to lie and claim that he actually had a choice.
You really think Ruff "allows" Adams to lie?

Or do you think its just as likely, if not more so, that Adams LIED to Ruff about how things would work out to get him here once he found out there was interest?

Ruff, if nothing else, was a low cost, easy, hire with "NHL bona fides" to placate the fanbase after the Krueger / Granato coaching messes. I have zero doubt that Adams would have lied his ass off to get Ruff here, as a CYA move.

No. I think Ruff is at the point in his career where he was happy to accept a two year deal to coach the Sabres. I think he was advised that the preference was to return the existing assistants, but he was given the option to make a change or two and chose not to. He himself said he wanted to work with the existing people and get to know them before making judgments. So if Adams is lying, then so too is Ruff.

I think this off-season they will change at least one assistant because they will have no option but to show they are trying to do something.

Granato was the mess? I thought the roster was..

Has Ruff come out and said that he wasn’t given a choice of assistants, or are we conflating what fans perceive as what reality was?

I could very much see a situation where Ruff was telling the truth and opted to keep the assistants over starting anew, especially since it’s Kevyn that was overseeing everything and Kev was an assistant under Ruff. I’m sure there’s a sense of trust Ruff has for the guy and his judgements on the team needs. Ruff was probably sold on the idea that the roster and guys needed a more veteran presence behind the bench to oversee everything but felt confident in the coaching staff.

Zero reason other than financial to bring anyone on this staff back, Lindy included. I know he'll be back, but he should not.

Problem is - I don't even know what coaching profile this group really needs.

- Are we the team that gives David Carle his shot?
- Try to identify the next Kris Knoblauch out of the AHL?
- Give someone with limited success like Jay Woodcroft their second chance?
- Try a different old retread like Boudreau or Gallant?

I hate every option to varying degrees.

Good thing is no respected coach will want to tank their career by taking this job...

So you will get Seth Appert

I don't even know what kind of coach they need anymore.

Gallant
Carle
Nelson
Sutter
Woodcroft
Boudreau

Maybe one of them, but not Appert.
