Prospect Info: Linden Vey to Canucks for 2nd Round Pick #50; Kings select Defenseman Roland McKeown

Taking Mckeown at 50 is outstanding. Losing Vey is tough as I know many of us saw him replacing Stoll eventually, but with the team committed to Richards, Kopitar, and Carter in the long-run there wasn't a huge need at the NHL level to keep Vey. Add in Kempe at 29, who from all accounts is already a solid 2-way centerman/winger, this is just great asset management by Lombardi. :yo:

Loving the mobility and character of the first two picks. I liked Vey but he was a better asset then a player for us with our depth. Fantastic move.

Vey was never going to replace Stoll, they are two completely different Center's.

Vey is not even in the same realm as Stoll at playing Center.

I think you're in the minority. Vey was never going to replace Stoll. Shore is the guy, not Vey.

writing was on the wall for Vey, just no place for him with this championship core of centers down the middle. Trading him for a 2nd was a great trade.....picking up Mckeown with that pick was even better. I didn't think he'd fall that far down.

With DLs loyalty there is no way that Stoll isn't resigned so he's years away from needing to be replaced.

Love this...McKeown, just selected #50, gets to the Kings table and asks "who did WE pick at #60"? 5 minutes after becoming a King, is asking
who did 'we' pick and then saying good things about Lintuniemi and it's great to have him in 'our' organization. Sounds like DL culture guy already.

McKeown, on Alex Lintuniemi:
Yeah, that’s great. Walking over here, I asked who we took at 60, and that’s a great pick. Lintuniemi’s a great defenseman in Ottawa, and i’ve played against him a lot. To have him in our organization is great.

A little bummed that Vey is gone but he realistically had no chance here. More annoyed that he's a Canuck now. Oh well, best of luck. At least Brad Richardson doesn't have to worry about Vey making him his ***** anymore.

True, but I hope hop hope DL doesn't give him more than 2 years. Gonna have problems
down the road, if he keeps giving out more than 2 yrs to some of the older vets.

Doubt Stoll only gets 2 years if Greene got 4.

The Kings will have a lot more decisions to mane next summer than they did this year. I doubt they will be able to keep both Williams and Stoll.

Canucks fan here. I know the Kings are very deep and he wouldn't get much of a shot but is he a good player and what's his game like?

NHL ready and has been for about a season now. He is quick and shifty, an excellent playmaker with good vision and hockey IQ, and he is defensively responsible along with being able to win important draws. He isn't very physical and is more of an offensive player and belongs more towards the top 6 than the bottom 6, but can be a good third line center.

Stoll can play fourth line Center, till he retires. Shore could take the Third line Center role.

Vey is terrible on Draws, Awful. Why do people keep saying he is good at it ?

He is not even average. His game is more suited to Wing. It's a contributing factor for LA moving him. He didn't develop the Skill set to play Center at a high level.

Nick Shore basically pushed Vey out due to a superior Skill set.

He's a facilitator with great vision. Not the best skater, not a great shot, but no slouch at either of those either. He's your prototypical playmaking forward. Can play center, but has more of a winger skillset, IMO. He's also responsible and knows where to go both ways on the ice.

He looked lost at times on the Kings, but once he got comfortable he looked good. I have a feeling if he gets his confidence going he's going to be a solid 2nd/3rd line tweener. Not sure of a comparison, he kind of reminds me of Boedker.

I don't know if I would say he is abysmal, but I would agree that it is not a very strong asset of his. He was bouncing around in between 25-50% on the Kings though admittedly he was often closer to 25 than 50.

Very also lost every physical battle. He one lost a battle to a potato
