Yeah agreed g00n. He looked good on tha line tonight. Much better than Laich had looked there. Was very happy with his game.

Side note- Oates just said he never talks to the team right after the game. Win or lose.

If they don't pack up the tent after 2 periods, maybe they're not coasting and on their heels, and maybe Volpatti doesn't have to go down to block that shot.

The lesson is sometimes when you coast to "play it safe" and avoid injury, you end up getting hurt anyway.

NEVER, EVER LET OFF THE GAS.
Yep. The Caps probably could've won like 7-3 if they kept attacking. They let Tampa walk all over them. They just can't do that. The good news is that its 100% something they can fix. The Caps were obviously the better team when they didn't fold it in.

They flipped a switch when the game was tied up. That's when the "maybe we can just hold on" laziness was replaced by "oh ****, better stop screwing around" urgency and they started skating a bit more (though they still nearly blew it a few times before that PP saved them).

I have more confidence that Oates and crew can fix this compared to Boudreau, who let it fester and was too afraid to mess with the "turn the stars loose and get out of the way" formula for too long.

The turning point this year was the loss to the Pens at the beginning of the road trip. They have said that the coaching staff showed them what they did in that game, and proved to them that despite the score they were playing at a high level in the new system. That's what started the winning in WPG and thereafter.

That tells me the team responds to these coaches, and the coaches seize on good and bad factors that go beyond the final score. Which means this game (and the Florida game) should serve as similar lessons that you just can't stop playing when you get a lead, no matter how big it is. They preach 60 minutes already, but this has to REALLY drive it home.

Back off Erat. He had one bad turnover that I saw.

It took the other caps 15 games to pick up the system...add in the injury and notice when volpatti went down it was Erat getting double shifted.

That's assuming that our goals weren't lucky too

Ovie up 1 for the Richard. Caps up 4 for the SE and up 2 for eighth in the East.

Terrible last 30 minutes. Turtling is just awful. But things look pretty good after all.

Well said. It gives Oates something to hammer home to the team with the last 6 tough games left in the season.

Just saw the hilites and what stood out was the old Ovechkin burst on his goal and two great passes by MP to Chimera and Fehr for easy goals. Sick passes.

Well I was just hoping he would bring something other than some nice skating and puck control seeing what we gave up and what we'll lose for him...

I dont know whats more impressive.....you being able to judge the outcome of the trade by 3 games of Erat....or 0 games of Forsberg. Youre so good I bet it didnt take either

No, but if he can come into the league and perform roughly as well as Erat...Milbury esqu deal ftl.

assuming an 18 year old player is going to step into the NHL and play, even roughly, like a seasoned vet who has proven to be an effective and productive player is just a bit much.....again, im not a big fan of the trade but some of this talk is nonsense

The remaining games left in the season are going to be tough. I would like to pay back Ottawa and Toronto for the games earlier in the season. Those were games we should have won but didn't. The Caps/Jets game should be a good one. Should be an exciting finish. Now I need to watch the game I missed. First game in since the 2005 lockout I've missed.

Go Caps!

You know, Ovechkin didn't have a good game, but LOL at the guys who said Stamkos is better or belongs in the "big 3". StLouis is so much better.

Come on Mothra, just admit it's a terrible trade. Even if FF never amounts to anything he's a prized asset today, and should have returned more than a good-but-not great player with a fairly high cap hit and a marginal prospect.

It's objectively a bad trade. Move on.

You really just said if FF busts it's still a bad trade. Ponderous...

More than anything, you're underrating Erat. Not that I liked the deal...

EDIT: And for the record, there's absolutely no way to "objectively" rate the trade as absolutely as you're trying to do, because in no way do we have an objective picture of Forsberg's perceived value around the league (or Latta's, I suppose).

Your logic is flawed if you think an unproven prospect is going to fetch a great player in return.

Not really. Unproven prospects of the caliber of Forsberg typically are traded for great players, or at least players of the trading team's position of most need

All indications are that George made a panic trade and got fleeced because of it.

I've only seen 3rd period - what was that? Tampa was just abusing them.

What part? I like Erat but he needs to signifiantly outperform the kid for at least a couple years and be a part of a Cup run or this trade is laughably bad.
