News: Lightning GM Julien Brisebois says it’s ‘unlikely’ top prospect Isaac Howard signs with club

I think the most comparable trade to point to for his value would be Adam Fox, where his rights were traded from Carolina to the Rangers for a 2nd and a conditional 3rd back in 2019. Something that helps his value though is that he's compensation eligible, while Fox wasn't. I think that bumps up his value a bit from Fox, probably into the 2 2nds or a late 1st range.

If I had a pick around #20 overall, I'd be willing to do that pick for Howard. Especially in this draft.

I’m guessing GMJB will look at moving him like how Philly moved Gauthier for a player. Trade Howard’s rights before they expire and get a body back in return.

How does Isaac feel about high taxes, cold weather, a dejected fanbase, a meddling cheapskate owner, incompetent management, and a dearth of all hope?

The one mandate is from our GM is that we have players who want to be in Buffalo, so he has to kinda be into those things, ideally with a low sense of self worth.
Well he plays at Michigan State which is the red headed step brother of Michigan so the bolded is a match.

Compensatory pick they'd get if he walks is 63rd overall in 2026, so gotta at least beat that, A high 2nd with a guarantee that he signs? Feel like that's the starting point at least.
False

Next year is his senior yr so rights till aug 15.
Comp is 31st of 2nd. Don't know yet if anyone forfeit a 1st in 27

How about the Penguins highest 2026 2nd for him, contingent on him signing.
You can't do contingent picks based on signings anymore.
Obviously any team trading for him is going to want to talk to him first though.

If it's picks they want in return then a lot of teams will be able to pay up the 2nd+ they will get at the minimum.

I hope the Ducks get in on this.

I could see the Sharks sniffing around. They can toss their own or the Ottawa 2nd round pick or either of next year's two 2nd round picks. Not sure how badly they'd really do that though since they have a few wingers turning pro next season themselves.

The other question is if he just doesn't want to sign with Tampa or there is a team (or teams) he'd be willing to sign with.

What can Chicago trade (have a lot of excess defensemen)? Looking for a $0.75 on the Dollar type of deal since Tampa’s leverage sucks. So more so a trade Tampa would live with not necessarily one they’d love.

It's worse: he wants to choose. ie, he wants to be a UFA and choose where he thinks he is the best fit.

Do you have a source on this? Everything I've seen makes it sound like he wants a spot in the NHL and TB won't guarantee him one.
