I hope they crash and burn like they did last playoffs.

I have mixed emotions about it. I like seeing the ex-Rangers captains succeed, but it’s not the same when they were here to try and win a cup, when we were competive. So it still leaves an emptiness. Even if their names are engraved onto that cup. Sure will get that 1st round pick, so we got that going on for us. Does that make sense? Sorry kinda hungover. Lol.

But guys like Mika and Kreider have kept these games interesting even if we are in a losing mentality. To lose 3-2 to the best team in the league is really not a bad thing. They worked and played hard in this game.

The odds of getting a better player than Hayes, which are small, are still better than Hayes being a better player than Hayes.

Is your point that he can't improve? If so, on what do you base that? If that's not what you mean, what do you mean?

If the chances of getting someone better is small, why do the deal? If your concern is the cap, I believe he'll be worth what he eventually gets.

Because his game is not based on speed, I think he should play at a high level for a long time. I've always been a big fan of players who can retain possession in the offensive zone. He is also a great passer and can score, and he's responsible, defensively. What do you see as his negatives?

I realize that most fans would rather trade him and it might work out, but it doesn't make sense to me. Unless the Rangers are blown away by an offer, he should stay a Ranger, in my opinion.

He probably can improve, which I get that my post implied that he can’t. But the central endeavor of a rebuild is to get elite players and Hayes will never be that. It’s highly unlikely that whatever picks and prospects we get for him will either, but it’s a better chance than the zero chance Hayes will.

Nobody on the current Rangers roster is likely to ever be elite, but you can't trade everyone. Why not keep the better ones that are young or youngish?

I think there is a prevailing wisdom that says keep trying to score a bullseye in the draft, but a scant few bad teams ever do and it usually only happens when there is a superstar available. Even then, it's not even close to a guarantee. The Rangers might get better long-term with their current plan. It's more likely they won't, but I suppose you have to keep making stabs at it.

I'm with you here. Until we actually have some (one) elite to build around what good are support pieces?

Folks are in denial about how long this process will be.

Hayes is a good player but keeping him does nothing for us except staying mediocre. It doesn't gain us assets... or picks (with a chance to strike gold)

No. Not at all. There is a lot of mockery, but making fun of the the main forum comments. They’ve been a little arrogant for my taste, but I guess when you have the best team in the league, can afford to be a little cocky.
I don’t care about the pick we’d get, I hope they don’t win anything.

Kreider Zibby Kravtsov is gonna be nice. Just need to figure out lines 2-4.

I would not worry too much about lines 3-4. Everyone else besides the guys you mentioned are well suited for that role!

I really want Zucc gone ASAP tho... just so we can stop counting that bird in the bush

Me too, but only because he is starting to hurt the team by playing so damned well. He deserves to rack up the points and being successful with San Jose (my guess) or Nashville. Any team not named......Penguins, Flyers, Islanders, Devils, Capitals.
Wouldn't mind he joining Carolina, but doubt thats happening.
I still really have no idea on what we will get for Zucch. Some say a late 1st and B prospect. I would almost prefer an "almost ready" sure fire winger to replace him and a 2nd that we could use to trade up.
I suppose a 1st would be better and if we indeed get that, then we should get much more for Hayes.

Seriously doubt the Rangers will come out ahead in the deal when Hayes leaves. Hayes is a 26 year-old who has evolved into an excellent all-around asset.

Don't see how they are likely to get better unless they get a player/prospect who ends up better than Hayes and I don't like the odds of that bet.

With our luck we WON'T make out in any Hayes deal. Still not 100% sold on Gorton, but NO GM is perfect. Have a feeling it will be a rental deal and he will be back, to help lead this team next year.
We are in a position of strength here. Gorton has got to make teams realize we DON'T HAVE TO trade him and have available cap space for him to be signed. Cough up big, or don't waste my time.

um.

agree with the first part. gonna be hard to get better player than hayes. draft picks and B players and such.

the second part, disagree. a lot.

kevin hayes is 26 and having his best season ever. its not like hes playing with elite talent either. dudes got a 70 point season in his wallet this year and was pretty darned good last year too.

those 6'5 2 way 200 ft pivots grow on trees dontcha know.

and his "poor point totals" are more a measure of our inability to finish his passes than his not producing. on a team like tampa, hes would have way more points for sure. on this team, 70 is damn impressive.

i think theres much sadness coming once hes gone.

Probably a good point, but nevertheless.......there are extenuiating circumstances here.
We need to LOSE......Hayes doesn't help us lose.
Even if we "only" get a rental price, it is "better" than NOTHING while he hurts (see above)
Will Hayes improve and be "even better"......hughly unlikely like you mentioned.
No one knows how motivated Kevin will be with another team as opposed to the team he truly loves and in the city in which he apparently loves as well. Is it his upcoming contract? Is it because he suddenly figured some shit out? Is it BECAUSE he is playing for the "right" to come back with the Rangers next year? Was that the "agreement" he made while signing that one year extension? Who knows, but I am sure we will find out within the next calendar year.

Apparently we are in the same camp. Yeah, very much impressive and no doubt he would flourish with any semblance to scoring wingers on each side of him.
Asking for the moon for a signed Hayes, should NOT be out of the question. They DON'T grow on any such Kopitarwalnut tree.
Not saying he is comparable......just saying.

The idea of Hayes leaving and then returning is a crazy way to think. I have no idea what the numbers on that are, but I would assume they are less than 10%.
