Pretty well every other coaching crew in hockey ....women included....would have him on a 3rd pair where he belongs . He catches a lot of heat here for being with Fox . Imagine if we had Rempe in the top line ? Same thing . At least now he has a chance at a Cup....he was a great Ranger .
He's got a better chance to win a cup than Fox

Why would anyone want Lindgren and Vesey?
Well at least with Lindgren, despite all the analytical advances that have been made, it seems most trades are still reputation-based. And so GMs still see Lindgren as the tough as nails defensive defenseman who lays it all on the line every night and is a leader. They don't seem to care that in terms of his actual, tangible contribution, he's terrible.

It's the same rationale behind the Trouba trade. GMs look past the fact that he's cooked and focus on his reputation as a guy who can play huge minutes in all situations, change the game with his physicality, and serve as an effective leader on and off the ice. He's actually garbage but again, reputation.

Vesey is at least a useful depth player.

I have some faith in the Rangers pro scouting with the deals they’ve made in season this year. Parssinen is a big body who can protect the puck down low. Cuylle, JT, Rempe, Edstrom. That’s the mold
I like the direction, but we need some guys who can actually put up some points. I'm really curious what the long term thinking is with Panarin & Laf after this abortion of a season from that line.

Is there actually a path for Parsinnen as a 3C?

Long term solution? Long shot. He’s got the potential, but he’s also got the potential to be a Brodzinski. For now? I see no reason not to give him some rope on a team that basically just declared themselves sellers for the remainder of the year. It’s probably the best chance he has to actually get there; leave him in that spot and let him get repetitions and maybe some confidence in himself.

If he were a different player, I would agree. In this case, I don’t think it’s that deep of a study. Guy is held together by Elmer’s glue (not even gorilla), paper clips, a few staples and some plain old scotch tape. We talk about giving 110% figuratively. He did it literally. He’s a 0% now because he is simply broken. Dude deserves disability pay when he retires.
His ability to win one on one's ended with the shoulder injury. He's on the smallish side. Couldn't play that style of his after he lost that strength from the injury. My opinion of course.

I don’t know why people are calling us sellers.

We traded a pending UFA with some of the worst metrics in the league and got value.

We are better today. I don’t see that as selling but trying to make the team better. We can still go both ways though. We’ll see what else Drury has in store. IMO we’re buying.

He absolutely could have re-signed him. I am glad that he did not.

He turned 2 depth level players (and thats being kind to RL) and an organizational filler into a youngish center (who may himself be a fringe player but we'll find out) a 2nd and a 4th.

This is a win. Enjoy it.
No way Lindgren was being resigned. Drury only gave him the one-year deal to help raise his trade value (as many may recall, it was next to nothing -- if not minus -- during the off season).

Short of one of Zib or Trocheck being dropped to 3C, I don't see why not. We've had mostly Carrick and Brodz there since trading away Fil. There isn't much behind Parsinnen to challenge him for the spot. Laba and Barker are basically it. Maybe Roobroeck if they view him as a center. None of them are banging on the NHL door yet.

At the end of the day we are still talking about NHL GMs/Coaches utilizing the same hockeyman philosophy. We look at Lindgren and see a guy whos broken down and sucks. They see a minute eating defenseman with a lot of playoff experience who is tough. That kind of thing will always garner value in this league.

Even Lindgren's biggest detractors on this board still expected to get decent value out of him in a trade because GMs are nothing if not predictable lol.
