This time I'm not really joking. We were led to believe he has some severe injury to both feet that he can't even put on skates and has to see a specialist but now he's magically good to go again two weeks after that information came out?

I would even say that the only bad picks there are Sanguinetti and McIlrath. Del Zotto has played 600+ NHL games and scored 200+ points and he's still under 30.

I think too many people (not you bigdog16) see a player as a "bad pick" if they aren't a superstar by the age of 21. It's important to remember that a LOT of the guys who made up our last core didn't even crack the league until 22-24 years old.

For me, a player is a "good pick" if, ~5 years or so after their draft, they would have clearly been drafted higher than they were originally. Kreider, Skjei, JT Miller, Del Zotto all fit that criteria (with most of them rising pretty significantly--most of the guys drafted in MDZ's year are out of the league already). I don't think it's fair to make that kind of judgement yet on guys who are just a couple two/three years removed from their drafts. The peaks and valleys are too pronounced during those years.

While Lias clearly has a hole to dig out of here, guys like K'Andre Miller, Lundkvist, Kravtsov, all look--initially at least--like risers. But who knows. Development is funny. It's entirely possible that, in 5 years, Lias is in our top 6 and Kakko is out of the league.

When 7 of your last 10 first round picks* would likely rise in re-drafts, the team's drafting is doing just fine.

* Lias, McI, and Sangs as the droppers, and excluding Kakko (because it's tough to rise from 2oa) and Cherepanov (for obv reasons).

We don't know when the injury occured, so I don't know where you're deriving a recovery timeline from. And we know he's been skating with specialized skates for at least a week, he may still be injured, but well enough to start playing again.

If you're being serious, where is this "worst foot injury in league history" coming from?

That is what is known as an exaggeration or hyperbole. He complained about having a severe foot injury, ran crying home, and then proceeded to start cryptically bashing the organization. Now two weeks later this severe foot injury is no more and he's good to go. At the most he will have missed 4-6 weeks (assuming he actually is good to go now that he's on a team) which is hardly some debilitating injury that nobody has ever dealt with before. Coincidentally all of this occurred after he played poorly in two leagues this year. His trade value is almost nothing and should remain that way regardless of how he does in Sweden considering everyone already knows he can perform well in lower tier leagues - he's done it before.

In this case I think you do exaggerate a just bit. Obviously no one called it the worst foot injury and he did leave just before Christmas so we’re talking about a month ago. If the issue is that his old skates prevented a healing process to take place or even contributed to causing minor injuries - a month of not skating could be enough for healing to take place... Any attitude issues aside.

It's a bit misleading to hyperbolize, say it's a serious take, and then hyperbolize further...
