This kid always came off as petulant to me.

And it's not the medal toss, it's his inability to work when challenged.

That's the most disappointing thing about him. For a player drafted for his character and drive, I saw none of that.

neither did I and I actually never thought that would be an issue for him. But he was so soft in everything he did. I thought skill and skating would kill him but I never expected him to be lazy or soft and he always looked it

The HFD organization has had two top ten picks quit on them in the last what- 2-3 months?

The **** is going on?
Yeah no matter what people try to paint here that isn’t a good look at all.

That being said, the kid didn’t do ANYTHING to change anyone’s opinion of him since he’s been in NY or CT

He's not an NHL player right now. I agree with the criticism of Smith playing top 9 minutes but Lias is not an NHL player. His skating is garbage and his offensive instincts are non-existent. He should have gotten some minutes in the top 9 at the start of the year but they didn't give him any.

Instead of going down to Hartford and puting in the work to get back up to the team like Chytil, he's invisible for half the game he's played in.

They've been selling us character on this pick from the moment he was selected and it's blown up in their faces

Genuine curiosity here, how many of HFD's games have you actually watched?

Let me play devil's advocate. If I'm feeling that I'm being buried at work, I'm gonna look for a new job. Pro sports is not the real world but otoh everybody's human. If the kid thinks he's better off elsewhere, that's his emo speaking, so let him go. I know this is now a complete waste of a top 10 pick, but we're not a prison.

Damn annoying that it hasn't worked out. I'm not sure the Rangers put him in the best position for success, but even still Lias needs to have shown more than he has.
Hopefully he go somewhere else and get his game together and whatever the return is becomes useful to the Rangers

the pick was inexcusable then and it’s inexcusable now and this should be a huge blemish on this regimes draft reputation

he was drafted for muh tangibles and they turned out to be one of his worst attributes

They shouldn't have even survived McIlrath, that is a big enough blemish for a complete overhaul, let alone Lias.

The weak draft excuse is so weak, at 7 you have plenty of choices. Necas, Vilardi, the thinking that got Kravtsov at 9 would’ve went a long way back in 2017. Instead they went the dreaded safe. And I feel bad for Lias for the awful path to nhl the team chose for him. At no point was he ever ready to move up those levels so quickly.

I think it's time for a regime change. This is a good baselining year for JD.

Hopefully he can bring in greater levels of competence from the St. Louis and CBJ organizations.

This is getting to be beyond dysfunctional. Reminds me of the country club guys from early 2000s, except it's with 20 year olds on one side, and coaching on the other.

I remember the looks on Gorton's and Gordie's faces on draft day. There was f*** all concensus about Lias, but that retiring Swedish scout (can't remember his name) convinced everybody that this was the guy. They looked super uncomfortable on the way to the podium.

I disliked both this pick and the Chytil pick equally on draft day, as did a large chunk of the board. Crazy how opposite they turned out.
