Prospect Info: Liam Ohgren LW, 19th Overall, 2022 NHL Draft

Truth being told, the rest of team Sweden had a terrible night, they almost fumbled away this game. They were ahead 2-0 and Swiss forced an OT game. Sweden was so nervous, 3 feet passes regularly missed their marks.
The Swiss kind of gave the game away with a couple of too many men penalties and a very weak one on the OT. So weak in fact, I think the ref made a big mistake.
Liam had more than a couple shot attempts and I believe he had a shot in the crossbar too.
He did at least dish the puck more than usual, so that's an improvement.
Man of the game award for Sweden , but as a captain he was a choice they made because all of the other players was so much below what they have showed so far in the tourney.
Just my opinion, of course.

The more I watch Ohgren the more unimpressed I get (watched Finland game tonight). He’s good/decent with the puck on his stick, but I’m worried with his inability to separate. Not super agile or quick where it counts. 3rd liner written all over him?

Ya, hopefully not the Iowa 3rd line.

No shade at all given but I find it funny we have the somewhat same conclusion (at the moment, I also see a 3rd liner) but I find that as a positive and come away cautiously impressed. I think he's great on the forecheck, he's attacking the play with authority, not agile but one doesn't need to be as a meat-and-potatoes type like Foligno/JEE - he just needs not to be slow and I don't think he is. And at top speed, he drives into the offensive zone with his strength and gets the puck deep consistently without dumping it. I think he actively looks for shots and wins board battles. He is very disruptive and annoying to play against.

And imagine all of these traits will continue to improve as the years go on. I came with optimism because I think he might be a very good 3rd liner or a middle-six all-situations forward (plays PK, PP, plays both sides of ice) and hopefully, with some good development, could either pair up as the 3rd wheel to a Boldy+someone else duo, or JEE if he moves back into a GREEF type 3rd line. Or if Bankier develops well, a nice power 3rd line of Ohgren-Bankier-Foligno - Ohgren being the shooter of the group (pot in 15 goals, wear down the opposing top lines, pain in the ass to play versus).

But at this point, its all speculation, I'm just happy we finally get to watch him play after being injured all season. And I'll stop my rants about Ohgren until the end of the SHL season :) :) G'nite!

It’s a small tournament and he’s playing on a defensively oriented team. He’s wearing the C and has stood up to the biggest guy in the tournament and been excellent defensively.

It’s obvious that Sweden uses him as a net front player, so that must be what he is at the moment. Like a Foligno/Parise hybrid, based on position alone lol.

Not forming a strong opinion at all yet. Players take time after significant injuries. Look at Rossi.

Kaprizov - Yurov - X
X - Rossi - Boldy
Ohgren - Eriksson Ek - X

Not a TON of pressure on him to be a no doubt top 6er. Would be nice, but being a winger version of Eriksson Ek, on the wing of Eriksson Ek, would make that line pretty tough.
I've penciled in Ohgren-Eriksson Ek-Stramel as the third line 3 years from now. Defensively sound, big bodied, and can chip in some offense.

Is Foligno, Gaudreau and Hartman your X-players? They are here for the long term..

Sort of, sort of not. This could very well be a 5 years out lineup.

Boldy 27
Rossi 26
Yurov 24
Ohgren 24
Kaprizov and Eriksson Ek will have just made the 30 turn and will probably still be effect players (if Kaprizov re-signs).

Wow.
Five year plans and new deals (name the song)
I'm not even sure I live that long.

I’m hoping Ohgren pulls a reverse Jordan Schroeder at this point, who looked unreal at the WJC.

His skating just isn’t good right now.

I think the skating is fine and he is an excellent forechecker. But he has questionable hands.

I don't know what to think. Sometimes he looks like a god skater, sometimes strong, sometimes, neither. For a guy with a rep for a good shot, he sure doesn't score much. Makes JEE look like Rocket Richard.

He was ok this game. I don't expect him to score more than 2 goals vs USA.
In other news, since Cutter Gauthier was born in Sweden, he will play the finals for Team Sweden just to even the odds a little.

Watching this kid with the puck reminds me of watching an injured Kap with the puck, lots of moving around doing nothing only to be bumped off the puck and have it head the other way every time. Really disappointing

I've barely noticed him at all.

I know , I’ve had to keep my eyes and ears peeled just looking for him in the ice and then when he has touched the puck it’s just a lot of spinning his wheels and useless attempts at quick edge work and reversing direction.

Honestly I thought he looked pretty bad. He’s clearly a strong kid and solid without the puck, but he doesn’t seem to have any idea how to use his teammates. A lot of pucks died on his stick.

I saw the speed and good skating others did. He isn’t the high end offensive talent but we sure drafted a sure fire 3rd line shutdown wing in the first which I know we all dream about!!
