Well, two of them are colleagues and have come where the work is and leave when they can lol, the other still lives outside Minny. The foundation for that team was built between 2003 - 2006 ( Bergeron. Krejci,) Chiarelli had no part of that and maybe only insight and approval in the 2006 draft/free agency.
The Bruins Jeff Gorton signed Chara, Savard, traded for Rask, and drafted Kessel, Lucci, Marchand.
It can be debated how much input Chiarelli had on that draft and free agency, but it was actually Gorton who did the work.
So the foundation for the 2011 team was in place before Chiarelli took over.
"The Bruins hired Chiarelli on May 26 to replace interim GM Jeff Gorton, but the NHL ruled that Chiarelli couldn’t start until July 15. That left Gorton running Boston’s draft and signing high-profile free agents such as Chara without being able to consult with the new boss." July 11, 2006 Worcester Telegram and Gazette.
Ottawa released Chiarelli 5 days early on around July 10th.
Gorton was fired by Chiarelli a year later.
People need to remember the Chiarelli's drafting basically sucked year over year until Pastrnak, with the exceptions of the no brainer picks of Seguin and Hamilton, and to a lesser extent Grzelcyk.
Chiarelli did make moves to deepen and sure up the roster for the 2011 cup. That is what he should get credit for.

Chiarelli inherited a team that was young, raw, and learning. It wasn't until Claude Julien that the team was given direction, structure, and purpose. Chiarelli was like a finish carpenter completing the house that was being built. He traded for or added a number of key players for the 2011 cup ... Horton, Seidenberg, Kelly, Peverley, Thornton, Reccihi, Ryder, McQuaid, Hnidy, and Ference.
Sweeney inherited a mature and aging cap strapped team. With the exception of his initial draft he has done a more than adequate job drafting based upon draft position and number of picks. His free agent signings have been mixed results and the players he has brought in via trades have for the most part prolonged Boston's competitiveness. He has brought the team to one final - 2019 and had put together arguably the best regular season team of the last 48 - 54 years - 2023. I believe we are currently in year two of a 4 - 5 year retool towards contender status again. What moves are made over the next few weeks to five months will be crucial.

Wonder if he’s going to fire the coach again, clearly it’s coaching problem, or a players problem. In Sweeneys opinion it’s everyone’s fault except his.

Sweeney’s biggest mistake was not the signings this year. By far firing Cassidy was the big problem. If he had the team from a couple years ago they win a cup. I was one who blamed Cassidy for some of the young guys not progressing but nothing has changed. Hindsight is 20/20.
Literally generationally bad 1st round. You have to go back to 2006 to find the worst selections for those three picks.
In addition the wrong player was selected in 2017 with a falling Vaak.
It took 10 years, but the chickens have come home to roost and they all have Avian Flu..
Or.... He's named Director of (insert prestigious title here) of Team Canada's Olympic team. He resigns as Bruins GM and nobody looks foolish, not Jacobs for moving on, not Sweeney for moving on to "greener pastures."
