Drai is nasty. I'd love him in teal. That said, would his return be enough to fix the Oilers? Doubt it. Thats a problem from the top down. I don't know how well having picks and good prospects would really help when you consider all the top picks they've had over the years. Ya im beating a dead horse. Just sayin.

Not overly well. Edmonton fans are sick of waiting on futures to pan out. Plus the ask to trade Draisaitl in-division would be astronomical.

Leon should be an Oiler for life. Only reason we should look at trading him is if he indicates he wants out later on in this contract.

I understand that it's futures but they are extremely valuable ones atleast. Those are all pieces that hurt to give up, not throw ins.

Bouchard, Benson, McLeod and a plus would hurt to give up for MacKinnon, but I'd scare the crap out of the office with my victory screech after I sadly gave up those pieces.

They not being throw ins doesn't mean it's a good offer. It can be a bad offer while still offering things of value.

Timmins value is severely depreciated, by the by. You don't miss a whole season and not have it hurt your stock.

Well I don't think that's the equivalent value wise and I don't think Drai is as valuable as Mack. Regardless we are way off value wise. Agree to disagree.

Fair enough. It's as close a package as I could think of with our pieces. MacK is a bit more valuable than Drai but I don't see Jost or Timmins having a lot of value right now. The point remains - everything I offered has value, none of it is a throw in.

The only current NHLer coming back had 26 points last year and we'd be left hoping Timmins isn't totally broken and Byram can make an immediate and masssive impact. Edmonton fans would absolutely riot if that went through, and for good reason.

I'd swap Newhook for Jost if that was a hangup. I'm personally high on Jost so I still value him as a 1st rounder. Timmins I understand, but imo he's an add that gives you a reasonable shot at a top pairing caliber Dman. Injuries are the only reason he's not valued as a A prospect to me. I also mentioned another add. Which I'm not sure what that would be but It wouldn't have been throw in type of value.

No, I wouldn't be interested at all in a pure futures offer. Maybe it's ignorance of our prospect pool but we have a really strong group of defence prospects coming. Arguably our top three prospects are defencemen, and I'd say 6 of our top 11 are defencemen. Trading a 50 goal scorer for a package largely consisting of defence prospects would be a Chiarelli move.

When you win $5000 in a lottery, you don't go out and automatically buy $5000 in lottery tickets, which is basically what you're suggesting we do.

Missing an entire season with a concussion is frankly absolutely terrifying.

I get that you're a good team now and want to increase your chances of winning in the near future, but pure futures or Jost+ futures for Draisaitl would be enough for me to give up my fandom permanently. It's not at all what we should be doing.

From a Canucks perspective, i'd give up Boeser+ in a heartbeat. As for what that "+" is, i'm not even really sure what the Canucks would have to add. They don't have their 2020 1st anymore, and it's hard to say what exactly else would even appeal to the Oilers in a deal like this. Pettersson, Hughes, and Horvat would pretty much be the only pieces i wouldn't include.

Is Giraird+Jost+Timmins+2020 first closer?

To convince the Oilers to move Leon in-division to the Canucks I think it would take a lot more than Boeser.

Draisaitl for all intents and purposes is untouchable, so I don't think an offer with three untouchables and no first rounder is gonna work.

Not particularly, no.

That first will be low. I have serious concerns about Timmins' health going forward. I'm not big on Jost and see his upside as a 2C at best. It wasn't that long ago that he and Puljujarvi's value was neck and neck after how poorly he started the season.

Girard's a nice player, but he was still pretty heavily sheltered and shouldn't slot in any higher than a #4.

Again, young defencemen really aren't the need here. Klefbom/Larsson/Nurse/Benning are all 26 or under. Jones/Lagesson/Bear/Samorukov/Bouchard/Broberg are all top 10 prospects for us and it's likely two of them will make the team (not Broberg)

It's still asking Homer Edmonton to take a haymaker on the chin in round 1 and hope to make it back in the later rounds once the other guy has punched themselves out.

Chiasson-McDavid-Neal
Benson-RNH-Archibald
Khaira-Jost-Kassian
Nygard-Haas-Gagner

Klefbom-Larsson
Nurse-Girard
Russell-Benning
Persson

That lineup is a lock to finish 30th or 31st, for three years at least. Imagine having to explain to McDavid that you traded Draisaitl and the best player coming back is a #4 defenceman.

Thank you for the in-depth analysis to help me better understand the Oilers situation. I’d argue you’re under valuing Girard as he played top pair most of last season, but I get what you are saying.

Not sure how this would impact cap space, but the Oilers need a trade partner with players already proven to contribute significantly at an NHL level with upside. Which team has the most types players like that? Tampa Bay.

Cirelli, Palat, Joseph, Barre-Boulet, Johnson, Gourde, Cernak, etc.

I could see something around Cirelli + 1 of Johnson/Gourde/Palat + Cernak + whatever draft picks are needed.

Tampa was looking at adding Karlsson and Pavelski at one point, Draisaitl's impact would be right along those lines for sure.

It's Byram plus but regardless I get your side here. Just think you're underplaying the package a little. I only overpaid because I understand you are accepting the risk.

Draisaitl had 21 goals without McDavid, three Leafs scored more than that.

Um, no he didn't? He had 9 goals and 18 points without McDavid this season.

Lol Draisaitl a career .87 ppg player while being strapped to McDavid or Hall.

Matthews a career .96 ppg player while playing with Kapanen, Connor Brown, and Johnsson.

Tavares a career .94 ppg player while having no one to play with for almost 10 years.

Marner a career .93 ppg player elevating Bozak and JVR to career highs.

Take away McDavid and Draisaitl would drop to .60 ppg, he’d be battling Nylander for 4th best on the leafs.

It’s funny how an outlier season where Draisaitl racked up points in garbage time against back up goalies suddenly makes him a better player.

Reality: William Nylander is Auston Matthews' most common linemate throughout his career and Zach Hyman is his 2nd most common linemate.

I can't imagine why Edmonton would trade Draisaitl in a package like that.

While I don't love Holland's work this offseason, he has done a decent job in plugging the holes on this team with short term contracts like Archibald and Granlund.

Edmonton wouldn't be looking for a 3 or 4 for one comprised of lesser bits and pieces. If we decided to completely shatter the make up of this team, we'd ask for Hedman, not Cirelli+Johnson+Cernak and low firsts. Guys like that should be easier to acquire than kicking a superstar to the curb and grabbing whatever discarded furniture happens to be there at the time.

They were in different situations and you know it. Playing centre at the NHL level is much harder than coasting alongside star C's the way Nylander and Marner have been able to.

I'll also offset your higher Matthews PPG with Draisaitl actually being healthy, playing entire seasons, and being better recently. Easy to maintain a PPG when you take a quarter of every season off.

But, if you want me to humour you, does that mean you think RNH is a superior player to William Nylander? After all, his career PPG is higher.

You could definitely make an argument for RNH being the better player than Nylander going into next season, I actually wouldn’t argue that really after Nylanders nightmare season.

While RNH may be a minor disappointment as. 1st OA pick, he’s still a really solid player.

Boeser+ doesn't do it. For Drai, we're talking Pettersson+. You may not like it, but he's not for sale, so you'd have to offer up something that you simply wouldn't move for him.

Yeah. So take it from us when we say your team is getting bent over by 22 year olds wanting big contracts

Better than getting bent over by washed up depth plugs like Lucic and Russell...

Dubas has done a phenomenal job getting rid of bad vet contracts. Holland did a good job to offload Lucic even though salary was retained. But you also have to make note Holland was famous in Detroit for overpaying vets and Detroit was in cap he’ll while not even a playoff team. Still an upgrade from Chiarelli obvi.
