I disagree with this... I honestly think Leo's biggest problem isn't necessarily his muscle or his physicality, it's been adjusting to the smaller NA ice. When he's at his worst, he plays like he has more space than he does. Another year in the SHL wouldn't have helped him with that.Hindsight is obviously 20/20 but I've come to agree that he should've spent a season in Sweden. Problem is I think his conditioning issues wouldn't have been any better. Would that have been a huge problem? I don't know. But the question of whether Leo is being developed properly as it stands now is a valid one.
The real problem with Leo is whether or not the Ducks have a clue why his development is moving at the pace it has. If the Ducks honestly think he's developing fine then we may have bigger problems. Of course if they too are disappointed with where he is at (which of course they will never say publicly) then the question becomes how are they going to fix that?
And for those who want to point at his age and preach patience here's the other side of that coin...Practically all the scouts were proclaiming that except for the generational talent named Bedard, both Leo and Fantilli were guys who would easily have gone #1 in most previous drafts.
Guys who are projected 1OA picks aren't expected to take 3 or more years to show something. But that's where we are currently with Leo unless he really breaks out the rest of this year.
Yeah, it would really suck having a 60 goal scorer and Selke Finalist as our 1CI just hope Carlsson doesn’t turn into Matthews.

I’m not writing him off by any means. But if he was playing in Canada or an O6 team there would be a lot hell being raised based on his so called pedigree that would expect better results by now.Devils advocate. I thought he showed a lot last year in what was a very difficult season for the team. A sophomore slump isn't unheard of in any professional league. Next year is going to be important for him. I would hope PV looks for a permanent and suitable option to play with him in the offseason.

You have to get there first…Yep. One of the best players over 82 games. Too bad never a Stanley Cup finalist.
The playoffs would suck more than the Boudreau years.

Putting the success or failure of a hockey or baseball franchise on one player is kind of simplistic. Many other factors in play (ownership, management, other players, etc.).

Wait didn’t verbeek offer stammer more than he signed for in Nashville? Or was that marchessault?Except for Cronin, and a couple of vet signings, I don’t have a real issue with what Verbeek has done.
The players he got rid of have been the right moves, both Manson and Lindholm have been plagued with injuries. Drysdale is approaching bust status.
He stayed out of the Stamkos bidding war, of course Stamkos probably gets more credit for sparing us.
John
A bit like this thread which has evolved into bashing Carlsson.
I think the main difference between the Carlsson discussion and being on the Titanic is music.
The Ducks need to get a real coach and then see how things pan out.

Was mainly responding to the blaming of Matthews for Toronto’s playoff failures. My comment was not referencing the Ducks in any way.You misunderstood the context of conversation. It is about having a great player on your team and not having a team around said player to get to the playoffs. This is true for any team sport.
In the Angels' case, having two superstars, Trout and Ohtani, but not ever making the playoffs. The last time the Angels were in the playoffs was when Dipoto was their GM and Trout's third full season in the big show, back in 2014. The last time the Angels were an above .500 team was with Dipoto in 2015, where he resigned mid-season due to owner-manager vs GM power structure. Dipoto was GM for five seasons (4 1/2, but he built the team for 2015), was over .500 four times, and went to the playoffs once.
Dipoto moved onto the Seattle Mariners in 2016. In nine seasons, his team has gone through a full rebuild, been over .500 six times, and went to the playoffs once in 2022. Unfortunately, the Mariners' owners are cheapskates and have been reducing the payroll for the past few years. Seattle had the best pitching in the league last year, but no pop. They couldn't afford to bring one known quantity big bat to the team. All of baseball is took notice this off-season about the Mariner's owner being that stingy to help the team.
Bringing this back to Carlsson, the Ducks are in the middle of the Verbeekening rebuild with a head coach who has no nose for offensive development. Anaheim ranks last in the league in GF with 134 goals and 14th in fewest GA in the league with 163 goals allowed. With so many offensive talents at HC Cronin's disposal, it is alarming how the youth forwards are struggling offensively. Were it not for amazing goaltending, the team would probably be vying for yet another bottom-3 finish.
If anything, people are going super easy on Carlsson even those that “criticize” him because almost every post ( including from myself) implies confidence in him long term. But People still have issues with that kind of sentiment too even if it has a disclaimer.Who's "bashing" Carlsson? I see people honestly discussing how he's looked, he's not above criticism. Everytime somebody makes a post that isn't glowing praise they have to have half a paragraph saying "I know hell be just fine, I know he's young, I know about sophomore slumps, I know Cronin sucks". That's freaking weird.
