Hopefully he shows up in the fall like this:

We hope, but you don't build legs like that in a full year, even. He can get maybe halfway there with a good summer of hard training, but it'll take a couple of years even with PEDs to reach that level of tree trunkage.

What are PEDs? Honest question, I have no idea, as my legs have been built like Roberto Carlos' legs ever since and I never *had* to pump iron for my legs. (My belly, however, has a sixpack of the non-muscular kind)

It's really ridiculously easy to see as a Finnish person. Finns don't tend to be very tall or very muscular, on average, even after a lot of training. Yet somehow, every time an A level Finnish prospect goes over to the NHL, within a year they start looking like hulking mountains compared to their compatriots with totally differing jawlines.

The only thing that does that reliably is growth hormones.

Did You say tiger woods( jaw line) that dude is an embarrassment now

Is Gauthier-Carlsson the pair we've been waiting for since Getz-Perry?
God willing. I've been fantasizing about it for a while now. It would definitely make Ducks games a lot more fun.

It helped that their first game together they showed really solid chemistry and Gauthier had mentioned that they instantly connected socially like they'd known each other for years.

And this is how you get chronic "hero puck" syndrome if you don't surround these guys with proper finishers.

Carlsson had Terry on his wing. But he's an 18-year old rookie in the NHL. It's a great sign he's a two-way player as an 18-year old. Give him a couple more seasons to develop physically and maybe he'll be able to carry players who might not be proper finisher. Mac is proof that a center can make non proper finishers look great last year with Vatrano and Strome. Mac still needs to continue developing physically.

I'm sure I'm overreacting, but the tenor is this doesn't seem great?

I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. In the article he says that he came home to Sweden at a weight of 88 kg (~194 lbs) and the Ducks wanted him to get to 96 kg (~210 lbs). And he’s gotten a little more than halfway there based on the title. I’m sure Anaheim would have liked him to put on a bit more weight, but 15 pounds is a big ask. I doubt they would be too strict about it. He also said something along the lines of him taking into consideration both what the Ducks think and what Carlsson + his trainer think.

Ducks asking him to put on 9kg over summer is a huge amount. 4-5kg is still a lot and far more realistic especially when it means he has kept his speed with the additional size.

IMO it sounds like the Ducks just gave him an excessive goal so that he has to work hard all summer

It certainly doesn’t impress me as to the quality of our development team/coaches/department.

I don't know, having to publicly say that you just have to ignore the development staff sometimes seems suboptimal.

There is a context with this that includes the off-season "voluntary" camp as well as the overall fitness fetishization that kind of weirds me out. The vibes are bad.
