Lemieux and Burkle looking to buy back Penguins from FSG

FSG owns Liverpool. If they were cash-strapped because of the Penguins, they wouldn't be spending so freely on one of their other franchises.

Yes, revenue will be down for a couple years, but that won't impact their spending.
FSG has billions upon billions. money aint no thang!

Some ppl here just don't know what they're talking about.

Yeah.. you can’t be sure of that lol
Probably can’t be 100% sure of that but I feel like I remember Taylor Haase inquired about the cap rising and was told that wasn’t an issue, they still will spend to the cap.

I mean, compared to what they spend with the Red Sox and Liverpool, the NHL salary cap — even with it rising — is still significantly less.

Eh, I would think their set up is just like a juiced up real estate portfolio.

You can have an underperforming asset that doesn’t prevent you from throwing money into another asset. Most also don’t want to hold onto an underperforming asset long term, though.

The Red Sox are in the MLB where they make money without even selling a ticket (hence why Bob Nutting loves it so much). I don’t know the details of a premier league team but I’d hazard to guess it’s like an NFL franchise where it just prints money and has the GDP of a small nation. The NHL is not like that.

I’m not saying FSG is going to sell the team, but i also wouldn’t be shocked if after 5 years, they realize hockey might not be the right business for them.

The entire annual cap hit for the Penguins is less than FSG is spending for Liverpool to acquire Florian Wirtz this summer.

On Chris Johnston's podcast today, he mentioned that FSG and the league do not see eye to eye on some things, and the marriage has never been great between the two. And that is why FSG is looking to get out of the NHL business. Apparently, FSG had some ideas that the league did not like. Or some such.

I think this rumor is legit, personally.

Can someone explain the Morehouse situation? Why is everybody on board with Mario and Burkle, but not Morehouse? I never followed this situation much.
People blamed Morehouse for all kinds of stuff for whatever reason. Literally thought he was pulling strings behind the scenes influencing hockey ops despite no evidence. Probably because he’s had his hand in a lot of local political dealings.

He’s a weaseily type of guy, but no different than most business guys.

There’s no way he financially compares to Mario let alone Burkle. If he’s involved, it’s likely mostly as the face and voice of the group as the other guys don’t like the spotlight.

Thanks dude.

So if they need a face or voice, No. 68 would be ideal for that role. Not that he has a lot of dough, mind you. Kladno is not exactly Liverpool FC.

Jags hanging around town is curious timing.

If he’s involved, it’s likely a minority mascot type. The PR of Mario and Jagr teaming up to buy the team writes itself.

Imagine going back in time to 2001 and telling people Jagr will survive dying alive and may be an owner of the Pens down the road.

I can imagine anything now. A few weeks back, I was imagining Mike Sullivan as part-owner of this team, so all good for me!

I mean FSG is probably just saying they don’t want to sell because saying they want to sell hurts their leverage. There’s too much smoke out there for me to take that at face value.

Still don’t understand why Lemieux sold it 4 years ago and is going to buy it back for more now, though.

Wow the NHL or the team must be pretty damn toxic for them to want to nope out so quick. Maybe they realized owning a cap league team sucks? You’d think they’d research all of this before buying though.

Mario after spending 4 years golfing and drinking bottles of wine more expensive than most people’s cars.
