Leevi Once Ullmark Is Back?

Oh, of course that would be option one... But, say Leevi got hurt too, then we're in a real pickle.

The Forsberg situation is tricky because he is better than the random journeymen goalies that they could grab via trade tomorrow without giving up assets, but they clearly don't think he is good enough to play for them.

I get that playing Merilainen as they did looks brilliant in hindsight, but it was fairly unprecedented to play a 22 year old 3 out of 4 nights (including a back-to-back) because he looked solid in a few outings, and then had a fantastic game. The point being, I would guess thinking they can't win with Forsberg had to play into taking that risk.

Even earlier in the season, it seemed like they were begging for Sogaard to be passable and take the job, but he dropped the ball.

You also have to keep in mind that if we get to the point where Ullmark is back, it would take two injuries before we even get to our third goalie. By the time that happens, we will be closer to the TDL, and the market might open up a bit for goalies. The way I see it is that if we get into a wild card position and both Ullmark and Merilainen go down, we are probably giving up assets for a legitimate goalie regardless of whether we have Forsberg or not.

He will be sent down. We live in a cap world.
I'm confused, which situation uses more of our cap? Keeping Forsberg in Ottawa and sending Merilainen down, or the opposite? The amount of cap we bury if Forsberg is sent down is larger than the amount we pay Merilainen, no?

I think they send Merilainen G back to Belleville & have an Ullmark G - Forsberg G tandem. I think we are stuck with Forsberg G & Hamonic RD until the end of the season when they will both be let go. I don't see any team wanting either player in any trade. It will be interesting to see whether they can get out of the Perron contract too, but my guess is no & he will be on the team next season.

Unless Meri falls off a cliff, this is exactly how it should play out. Forsberg had one good season and has been dogshit before and since. He's gone after this season. Soogard . . . probably gets waived and buried to start next season. Maybe he finds a way to earn that one way contract Pierre gave him for some bizarre reason when he realizes nobody in the league wants him for free.
SS is the one who signed him to a 2-year contract in July 2024, 1st year is two-way, 2nd year is one-way. Dorion was to blame for a lot of moves, but this wasn't one of them.

Really?

Damn. Hopefully that's Staios' last bad contract for a while

Merilainen should be the starter through until the end of the season at this point unless there's a slip in his play or it's a back-to-back then get Forsberg or Ullmark in for a game (whoever is healthy).

Lets find out if we have a guy who can play 30-40 games next year and back up for Ullmark.

And then in the playoffs Ullmark starts.

So when Ullmark is ready and cleared to play, the big time acquisition the team made in the offseason and signed to an extension, sits, while Merilainen is the “starter though until the end of the season “…….

Don’t think that’s going to happen.

im ok with letting Leevi ride out his hotstreak which will inevitably end. hate inserting a goalie when another goalie is on fire. Always reminds me when Lehner was star of the week took him out of the net for healthy Anderson and he never found his mojo back after that.
