Lecavalier Bought Out - A Good Fit?

In what universe are we considered "stacked at center"??? I want to go there. Short term deal would be awesome and would help greatly when Spezza predictably reinjures his bad back or when his knee blows up.

In a universe that consistently over-rates prospects, and uses small sample sizes to make jump to insane conclusions. I call this universe HFBoards

I fail to see how HE had a horrible experience with his long term contract. I see how the Lightning had a horrible experience, but not Vinny.

Because of this buyout, the Lightning will be paying him million(S) of dollars until he is 50 years old, not including the extra 25 million he'll probably make in free agency. People are right. He's still, at the very least, a 60 point player with the potential for even more. He's still going to go where the money is, albeit not necessarily THE best offer.

If I'm Lecavalier, I'm happy as hell. I get to leave a franchise that is struggling to find it's identity. I get to choose pretty much any team I want to play for.

We're not stacked, but in terms of looking at positional needs I fail to see how you can't agree that it is the very least of our team needs.

If it were to happen it would make us a much better team. The problem is that Lecavalier will not sign in Ottawa over somewhere like Montreal, and we're unwilling to spend the money to get him.
 
Isn't our #1 need scoring?

Why bring in a guy that does that then. He will take playing time away from Turris and Zibanejad.

Lecavalier is worth a 4 or 5 year deal. I'd sign him over Alfredsson if it came down to that.

Alfredsson is retiring anyway.

I love the people that come in with the cliche "OH LADDY DAH ITS HF BOARDS YOU GUYS OVERRATE PROSPECTS AFUENDWFJW" and just completely and obliviously ignore what everyone who is against it is saying.

They're not against Lecavalier, they're trying to temper peoples expectations. This board also had a hard on for Brad Richards and made all these lineups with a 1-2 combo of Spezza/Richards, but we all really knew that we had little to no chance at signing him.

Same applies here. With the rumours of internal budgets, I highly doubt the Senators are looking to invest $25 000 000 in a player when they feel like they're already deep at a position.

Because he is older, and wiser, and probably doesn't want to be tied down to one team in the event that they suck. With this crazy buy out he is getting like 2 million a year until he is 47. But I think he probably rather have the money now. I think there is a chance.

Stop re-hashing the same freaking point over and over and over again like you always do.

Our needs are at scoring, but you're living in fantasy land if you think the Senators are going to beat the offers of 28 other teams in the NHL. Not going to happen.

My sincere apologies for being realistic.

I would too... Vinny 4-5 years at 5.0 is perfect

That makes our team better and thats the goal... to win hockey games
 
changes in ufa market

With Vinny being bought out does this significantly change the face of the ufa market will it hold up teams waiting to see where he signs. to make there pitch to otheru ufa players. Also does it drive down the price of other ufa 's.

You're painting a picture like it's a matter of (Huge Annual Salary but for Short Term vs. Low Annual Salary but for Long Term) but that's not what this situation is.

His production and his age (still got a half decade in him) mean that realistically he's going to get an offer where he gets BOTH a solid annual salary, as well as a long term deal. We have to beat 28 other teams to get him. There's no "connection" with the organization that would see him take a discount either.

Even if the Sens get outbid for his services the Sens should be putting forth an offer.

That's what I'd like to hear.

No reason to give up right off the bat

To me, if anything it makes the costs go higher.

Previously, teams weren't looking at this off-season with the thought that they'd be able to land a #1 center. Now that they're thinking it, I believe that teams are really going to get their hearts set on landing Vinny. When he evidently signs somewhere leaving a handful of teams disappointed, they're going to panic and try and find someone else to fill that role.

That's a problem with some teams. It's almost like they build their next years team around convincing a guy to sign with them. Then if he doesn't they're left with a gaping hole.
 
Ottawa needs to find the right fit, not jumble the roster to fit in the guy that just became available and is on TSN every two seconds.

The right fit is a winger that can play with Spezza on the right side.

I'm not talking saying I think we will sign him, because obviously we most likely won't.

But I think saying we don't need him because he's a center is ridiculous, we are far from deep at that position in terms of actual proven points producers, and that's our biggest need right now regardless of position.
