I don't really get what Buffalo fans are saying. Sure, they don't have to trade him, and that's probably the right thing to do. But why would any team give up a player better than Cozens ("top 6 centre better than Cozens") for Cozens? It makes literally no sense.

When players like this are traded, unless Cozens is going as part of a package for a much better player, the team trading the key player (i.e Buffalo) usually loses the deal.
See: every previous Buffalo trade, JT Miller, Mark Stone, Jake Guentzel, Alex DeBrincat, Bo Horvat, Matthew Tkachuk, etc..

That is literally what Buffalo fans have been saying from the get. Use other pieces and Cozens to upgrade on Cozens. Nobody is asking for Petterson for Cozens straight up or whatever other fantasy you have concocted in your head.

You have literally stated our position. Keep him or use him in a larger package for an upgrade.

Sure, that's a fair way to look at it. Though that's not really what has happened for the last 10+ guys that had rumors around them like this that came to fruition.

Keep in mind any team that has a better player to trade also wants sure assets, not a player with some question marks like Cozens.
Maybe
Just think they will keep him if the return sucks

What’s the saying buy high, sell low?

I would personally want a better player than Evans. If Montreal were dealing, I'd be seeing if Slaf could be part of a deal (I doubt he would be but that's who I would try to work around). I think the Habs are bad trade partners.

Cozens for that package makes sense in a vacuum, but not from my view based on where I would build my team
No , and you will be dissapointed if you think that's the kind of players you will receive

I still feel if Calgary wants Cozens that Weegar would have to be on the table.

Something like Cozens and Jokiharju for Weegar and a dude

I don't see Calgary going for that. Joker has very little value, like maybe a mid-round pick at this point. Cozens has shown some really good production in the past, but is mired in a very long slump. I'm sure teams are interested in him, but at this moment this isn't 30 goal Dylan Cozens we're taking calls on. Weegar is a solid, top pair, RHD with term. Those guys are worth a lot.

They tried the first of the two WHL centers drafted early in 2019 who might have hockey IQ issues in Dach, now they need to try the second?

No idea what we would offer. It’s probably Dach+ or Newhook+. Something like that.

I see the Sabres needing a RD so maybe Mailloux is one of the + on top of Dach or Newhook. I would be surprised if we have Reinbacher on the table

Doubt the Habs go any deeper than that. Sabres save cap space in this deal as well

Division trade so that’s difficult usually

Sabres don't need to save cap space, unlike most of the rest of the league.

Given Dach's history, would rather pass on him. Rarely seen someone injured so often.

I understand.. I was just spitballing on what angle Gorton and Hughes are coming from. Would they trade Reinbacher? It’s not a 100% no but I doubt it
