News Article: Lebreton

A good friend of mine is long-term partners with a Ruddy and he said he doesn't think John is involved at all. Not that he would know everything but would likely know if he was a major player in anything big.
From a very reliable source, the girls honestly hadn’t decided what to do with the team up until a week ago.

They are talking, and they are very aware that they are in over their heads, but they want to try and honour their father by keeping it in the family.

Internally the expectation is that they will take on partners, but are having a hard time giving up “control” ie 50%+.

My understanding is that the investors are specific to the development of the Lebreton arena as well as any surrounding buildings they are allowed build, but I wasn’t pressing too hard for details, considering it should all be coming out shortly.
I have no inside info but this is what I expected. The girls can honor Eugene's wishes, bring in good people to support/run the organization, and get a nice injection of $100+ mil to their spending accounts. A rare case where you can have your cake and eat it too.

Holy hell, what a desperate take.
I’m not desperate at all, just hopeful, and tired of the established financial elite.

I also care about other things beyond hockey.

I enjoy having idealistic discussions, expanding on hopeful change, etc… it’s off season, and it’s rare that we have a chance to have something truly new and different.

Most people just want the money, I get that, and I’m sure I’ll be happy as well. I really hope that they continue on with the changes to the brand and the involvement in inclusiveness and in the community as a whole.

Seems like a lot of excitement coming down the pipeline today!!!!

This is pretty much what I expected, though I though they might be less hesitant to give up control. Some have suggested minority stakes are not appealing as you end up just being there for cash calls and nothing else, so if that's the case, I guess I can see the reason for reluctance.

lol...kinda sad I had to think about that for a minute after reading "Albert Street". Been out of the city way too long.

It is nice to see something big start to happen in Lebreton. Hopefully they can fit in some condos and built a nice non-hockey (and after games) set of attractions in that area, as well.

Congrats all, hope this actually gets off the ground with a more cohesive and functional Council after the election. Been a long time coming to get the Senators downtown and hope it does what is needed to stabilize the franchise in the long-term.

So to be clear, any partnership we hear about at this presser pertains to the building of the rink project, not partnership in ownership?

Good info, I’m completely blindsided by the major investor/buyer being American. I had been led to believe that a local group including Greenberg and Tomlinson amongst other had the inside track and had a fairly substantial bid ready.

I love renderings but that building looks like a nightmare to get into during winter. I want to state again, I do love the look. I'm just worried about the practicality of getting into the arena during winter months.

So, none of the partners announced are related to any equity in the Sens. They are all related to building, designing and managing entertainment (live nation is ticketmaster). What the hell was Brucie talking about with HUGE partner announcement.
