What does he do with the Palladium? My guess would be he’d want a casino there. He has been friendly with the casino peeps recently. Wonder if the 2 are connected?

Don't know that Ottawa/Gatineau can support a third Casino, but perhaps it can. The Lac Lemay Casino is the regions' #1 tourist attraction, and the Hard Rock Casino, whenever it gets built will get it's fair share of the market ...

Definitely not easy when you are as broke as Melnyk is.

I'm sorry, when did he declare bankruptcy, or that he was broke? Was that before or after he was granted the LOC, as I'm sure they would have done their due diligence?

Nope, but the major announcements of huge lines of credit from the org would make us think that he is having trouble paying his bills.

(hoping you answer the questions you keep deflecting re: lines of credit)

Also, I missed it, but heard about it from someone else, weren't Kypreos and Friedman giggling about Melnyk's ability or inability to be able to afford signing bonus' for both Stone and Duchene during the "After 40" segment on HNIC this weekend??

Oh man I have feeling something's gonna drop on Wednesday and Melnyk officially becomes the enemy of the city.

Is this a #BuckleUp moment?

You playing a hunch, or do you know something we don't?
Just a hunch. The silence on the progress is deafening.
Wednesday is the day before NCC board meeting and that's when stories like that are usually published in the Citizen.
Fully expect NCC announcing pulling out of negotiations or Melnyk demanding half a Billion from the public. Would love to be wrong.

Be cool to turn it into an aquarium or Sea World or something

Unsure of aquarium's level of abuse towards animals (assume it is also high) but is sea world a type of place that holds large aquatic animals in tiny tanks for public enjoyment, like marine land or something else? If so not a chance for that in my eyes and rightly so!

Well yeah, obviously zoos , aquariums and such have to ensure that animals are well maintained and looked after. Would be cool to see the ice surface turn into a huge pool. The whole first level gone as the sides would rise up to the second level for the live show. The whole lower level could be aquarium stuff.

Melnyk is not the idiot that some people make him out to be ....... and he, and everyone else knows, that the Senators need to move to a downtown location, in order to survive in this small Canadian market.

Yes, he is his own worse enemy when he speaks publicly about this issue and speaks his mind, and says things that he should keep to himself ........ but he and everyone knows this move (to Lebreton Flats) will ensure the Senators will remain in Ottawa, for decades to come.

I'm sure he also sees the goldmine that Buying and Developing Lebreton Flats over the same time period, will be to his pocketbook.

I think Melnyk's idiocy shone through when he fired Cyril Leeder because of sagging ticket sales in Kanata even though he was instrumental in winning the Lebreton bid and was seen as a critical driver of moving the development forward, because of the relationships he's built in this city over the last 30+ years.

If Melnyk had any foresight, he would've re-assigned Leeder to fully focus on Lebreton and brought in someone else to handle marketing and ticket sales. But he doesn't. He's brash, reactionary and thinks he's the smartest person in every room. That's why he won't be able to make this happen. He doesn't have the patience or know-how to navigate the incredible amount of red tape involved.

Do other franchises announce financing and I just miss it, or is this all as unusual as it seems?

$30m LOC? Lol, that's not even equal to the value of a Duchene OR a Stone deal... hell that's hardly even the value of what it will take to sign Dzingel. Why is an NHL team announcing such things?

I still have this gut feeling that land remediation and/or other land-related issues are going to be an issue.

Not sure why, just a feeling I have.

Honestly I wouldn't be unhappy about this because it doesn't affect me as a fan (in the short-term) and it really, really hurts Melnyk.

I'm all in favour of Leberton getting developed but I'm not in any hurry to experience the traffic nightmare it will create.

It sure does but it doesn't force his hand to sell the team. I was hoping with a firm deal in place and team evaluation at the all time high, he can finally sell it maximizing his profits.
On the other hand, if the deal falls through, it will negatively affect team evaluation and I doubt he'd be too eager to sell.

Not sure why, just a feeling I have.

I think the scope of the cleanup will be astronomical and renders the land virtually worthless.

Well some of "us think" that the LOC was secured because "he is having trouble paying his bills" but that is pure speculation, and there is no legitimate confirmation of this.

I know if a business had trouble paying it's bills, and approached a financial institution for a LOC, they would do their due diligence, and and IF it were true ( not being able to pay bills) they would certainly not grant the org a LOC.

Someone, not me, suggested that the LOC may have been secured, for exactly that purpose, signing bonuses.
