GDT: Leaves blowin' into Ottawa, Saturday night 7pm

Most egrigious was how they gave no f***s on the broadcast about nick cousins getting hurt on that knee-on-knee but poor leads rookie though, mama is in the house let’s just focus on that. f***ing hate HNIC
HNIC is a Rogers SN broadcast team. Toronto centric. Always was and always will be. I hope Amazon wins the next contracts for all games. TSN is the same as Rogers SN.

Great to get the win against the leaves!

Impressive that they are able to lean back on their defensive structure so effectively these days even though scoring has dried up.

Hopefully as the defensive play becomes ingrained, their minds free up to produce more offense from their strong defence.

I would agree with that generally. But, I had more specific thoughts in mind. I just think the learning curve is greater for a defenseman, so plugging in a depth forward is easier. One of the recent goals (2nd last game?) Sebrango and his partner got their coverages wrong and a goal was scored.

By and large though our depth defenders have filled in well. I’m thinking mostly of Matinpalo. JBD & Hamonic have been OK (serviceable for the most part & not terrible every game at least), but I tend to think of them as roster players (6D & 7D).
I agree that Matinplano, JBD and perhaps Hamonic are 7D types who can fill in for short-term injuries. I hope Yak is ready for a 3RD role next season. It would be great if he can handle 3RD in his rookie season and then as he matures and develops move up the RD ranks.

We definitely need a top 6 F to improve our GF/G stat. Maybe we get very lucky in the draft or find a gem in UFA.

TSN is far more balanced than the dolts at SN. TSN is still Toronto centric but the GTA extended does encompass about 25% of the country’s population. I’m hoping Amazon, TSN and SN all get a piece of the National broadcasts as it will generate more HRR. As a fan of a small market Canadian team, the more we get away from a gate driven league the better.

I'm sure this will be the year Mitch Marner doesn't embarrass himself.

I'm almost envious of the goldfish memory that fan base seems to have. Unequivocal failure in May, and by October it's all forgotten. God it must be so easy to exist in an echo chamber so massive it blocks out the sun.

The consequences of failure are a little more tangible here.
It's called almost 60 years of experience :D

Leafs feel like this great Flyers team from back in the day - built to win and maybe a bit thin on D but the goalies just never playoff caliber to hold the team together.

One win away from tying for 3rd place, this is right where we hoped they would be at this time of yr. And they are doing it with all kinds of injuries to key players, the worse schedule I can remember & with our best players in a scoring slump. Hopefully our schedule for the remainder of the season benefits Ott, hopefully our injured key players come back stronger for the remainder of the yr & hopefully our stars break out of their scoring slump & the offence comes back in spades.

TSN may be a little more sensitive to the Sens perspective since they have local broadcast rights. I remember when we used to always complain about CBC being biased and waiting for the comeuppance they would get when private broadcasters took over. If TSN got the national rights, or Amazon does, I would always expect them to focus on the big market over the small one too. Such is our lot to bear. But I think the league already has been getting more than half it’s revenue from other than gate. Ticket prices don’t feel like they have jumped in direct correlation to the increase in league revenues which has more than doubled in the cap era.

Amazon might pay a pretty penny for an exclusive contract. But I cant imagine that going over well. Hopefully many get a piece of the action as you say.

In the U.S., the NHL signed 7-year broadcast rights contracts with ESPN+ and TNT/TBS to broadcast NHL games. I don’t think the NHL will break their contract with these 2 companies, so don’t think there will be an “exclusive” contract with Amazon/Prime in the next 7 years in the U.S.

The situation in Canada could be different.

Eh, I'd rather see Andlauer decide to go the YES route and make all the cash themselves. It'd solve the blackout problems at least.

Anyone doing broadcast will bend over for Leafs fans, it has nothing to do with who is doing the broadcast.

Ottawa is tiny, we don't matter.
