Least favorite pick your team made

Haven't followed hockey or the Lightning for an extremely long period of time, but I absolutely HATED the Nolan Foote selection in 2019. Really wanted Arthur Kaliyev or Bobby Brink.

Stefan Matteau. Considering Chandler Stephenson, Parayko, Slavin were all picked in rounds 3 or later. Hindsight I guess but this pick never sat well with me.

I have to say Mailloux. Even if he's kinda redeemed himself, I thought he was a stupid pick. We didn't need the drama that came with that pick. Some people said he would have been picked top-10 but I've never seen such a high ranking before the draft. There were still interesting players available.

Which of your team's picks were you the most disappointed with? For Anaheim, I would say LaCombe. I still am ok with the pick, but I preferred other defensemen at #39.
Well that didn't age well...

Jury is still out but Probably Reinbacher pick. Carey effing up his name made it even worse lol
I think every Habs fan agrees with you, let's face it we all wanted Michkov. Looking back though, Leonard would have also been nice.

Yeah I wanted Morrow. Looking like I was right to.

The Matteau pick was the one that came to mind when I saw the thread title. Not even so much the player himself, but that Lou had the option of forfeiting the pick to fulfill the Kovalchuk contract penalty. #29 in a perceived weaker draft year seemed like the good option out of a bad situation. Not sure if Lou had an inkling that the penalty would be reduced and that factored into the decision.

My least favorite pick for the Habs was McCarron, mostly because of the circumstances of his selection. He eventually found a niche so good on him, but taking on a long term project like this because the Habs struggled in one playoff series was a harbinger of things to come from a decision making standpoint.

Also, because I used to live in the west those days, I like Theodore a lot. Also liked Zykov. One worked one, one did not.

Juolevi over Matthew f***ing Tkachuk.

“With the 5th overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft, the Vancouver Canucks, are proud to select, from the London Knights of the OHL……”

Yay! Tkachuk baby let’s go!

“…..Olli Juolevi”.

What the f***.

The draft is a crapshoot when making player to player comparisons, but when you get two players from the same team in clearly the wrong order, then tis much harder to swallow.

Mesar. I was at the draft, I was discussing with people around me saying I was hoping for Hutson. Thankfully, he fell to us still, but we could have had a considerably better draft if we had dodged Mesar. To this day, I don’t really see what they saw in him to pick him several other prospects that were available at 26.

I also really didn’t like the Reinbacher pick because I didn’t feel he was bpa. You can’t swing and miss at 5 without suffering from it. Jury is still very much out on him, of course. He should still be a valuable part of the Canadiens’ future.

Other than that, Fucale comes to mind. Mailloux as well for other reasons.

Looking back on the 2019 draft for which the thread was made, still not sure why Buffalo hopped around multiple times in later rounds. Oddly though, Huglen is still on their asset sheet even if it seems unlikely that he ever amounts to much as a pro due to his lengthy and ongoing back issues.

Mildly annoyed then, now just a bit a eh, whatever about it.

A lot of people not reading the OP. This was for the 2019 draft.
