Smith doesn't even look that great at faceoff compared to Gauthier. Need to really bring Freddy back.

Nice feeling to actually be able to lean on your backup when you need to.

And yet there are media people in Toronto who refuse to give him credit, and were still whining about Enroth just last week.

McElhinney is looking like he could be a very important piece for this season. Three very solid outings and two wins so far.

The Score had an article today about 5 places Claude Julien might land his next gig and they didn't include Las Vegas or Montreal.

Take out LV, I saw that article and it was called something like "5 coaches Julien could replace". They said in the first line how he should be a front runner for LV, but left them out because they were looking at teams that might make a coach change.

Not sure if you watched the same game as I did... There were A LOT of scoring chance for Dallas. It's not like they only took point shots? :help:

They were playing riverboat hockey the last few. Much tighter around the goalie tonight, even the tsn panel was saying the same. Maybe you werent watching the last few..

we were much better in front of the net, but gave up the slot a bit more it seemd.
Iffy on some of the penalties and some stuff not called but mvp to curtis and gards. Good win.

If we resign him for another year we don't have to expose Martin or Komarov. Otherwise we will have to because we don't really have other forwards that meet the requirements.

Why do you think they will sign him? Plus, doesn't he have to be signed for 2 years, to be eligible? Also, isn't the draft before July 1st? Why would Smith sign a one year deal so early? (I realize he sucks and nobody's break down his door but still). Why not just extend him now, if that's the case?

If management is intent on letting Gauthier marinate a bit more in the AHL, Smith is definitely not the answer. I'd rather see Laich called up FFS.

Good call, Laich is a big upgrade, Smith literally does nothing well, outside of the odd faceoff. He's awful.

Those 3 were great, but let's give Polak some credit, he's been excellent for us in a lot of games this season.

Polak has been up and down this season IMO. Played some good games, a lot of okay games, and a few bad games. He's definitely serviceable as a 3rd pairing Dman, but our 3rd pairing seems to consistently cause problems. Biggest problem I've seen with Polak is he looses his defenseman/positioning when they are hemmed in the D-zone. Overall though, I haven't been too upset with him, but our 3rd pairing is still a significant weakness and has had to be severely sheltered (sometimes it's been Marincin/Hunwick, so I think Marchenko-Polak might work out alright.... I hope Marchenko impresses and we can get switch him with Carrick though in order to balance out the playstyle of the bottom 4).

He's been our best dman,Zybalto

Considering its his first season in the nhl, I'm really impressed

Yup.

"Welcome to the NHL Nikita! We're going to be putting you on the top pair here which will probably translate into the toughest minutes in the NHL as the rest of our defense is a tire fire. Good luck!"

He's handled himself amazingly.

lol yeah... The TSN panel would not be saying the same if McBackup allowed a few softies and we lose the game.

If you think tonight's game was a demonstration of how nhl teams should defend, you haven't seen a team with good defence. But anyways, as I mentioned previously, win is a win.
