Aside from being 4 points up on Florida the crazy part is this.

Toronto 54 points

Florida 50 points

Boston 45 points

Tampa 42 points.

Tampa bay has 4 games in hand on Toronto, even if they won them all they would STILL be 4 points back.

this is why I say games in hand don't matter until they are won.
Tampa is not catching the leafs no matter how many games in hand they have.

Hope McCabe is okay, him getting two bad head hits close together is concerning. He really reminds me of Muzzin, both in play style and taking some serious punishment...

Marner has been sublime this season, the man is going to get paid. Nylander, I have no clue what goes on inside that guys head. So much talent, so much laissez-faire, lackadaisacal, unengaged play too often. He reaches for pucks with his stick instead of being direct and forcing his size and strength on opponents. Seven games now without a goal, and frankly has been uninspired for all of them. Cautionary tale about giving huge contracts to players in-season when they're having what appears to be career years.

Berube seemed quite concerned about it as well, so close together.

Yet some fans want Marner signed yesterday for Matthews money. There is no rush to sign Marner IMO. Give him one more chance to show that he can translate his game into the playoffs. Nobody is paying him $104m over 7 years. Stop bidding against yourself.

Same with Tavares. Do you want to pay him as a PPG player if he flops in the playoffs again?

Depends on the player.

They should be concerned. Could be career ending. McCabe needs to be put on LTIR for awhile now.

Just signed a contract this yr and we need him healthy for many more yrs. They need to look long term here. Was a nasty fall/hit

Toronto is finding a way to win these tight/close games bodes well going forward, whether they should be close or not is a different story.

Time for Reaves to earn that paycheck on Tuesday.

I very much doubt it is anything close to career ending. He will probably be back by next week.

If you want to act like a tough guy you better actually be a tough guy.

Not sure what McCabe was thinking. Punching a guy in the head while he's on the ground is always a good way to start a fight. That's a mistake McCabe probably regrets right about now.

Hildeby looks... um... I'm not sure.

That first goal was one he would 've liked back. Unfortunately that's not the first time we've seen that happened. I really hope it's just nerves because I already have this guy pencilled as the team's starter in two years.

As much as I like Woll I anticipate he'll be in a wheelchair by then.

There's not enough good you can say about Knies these past two games. He's not just riding the coattails of the star players beside him either. All the people who said that about Hyman when he was here were proven foolishly mistaken.

Not as big a mistake McCabe made taking on Hathaway last night but still a mistake.

Here is another angle just pisses me off. i wonder if NHL has the balls to do the right thing here

did he get kneed in the head on the takedown?
No, like I said before, watch the clip. In the full replay above (no slomo) you can see McCabe must have hit his head on the ice first. Then in this clip if you watch the first few frames carefully you can see what looks like Hathaway's right arm/elbow hit McCabe's head again as Hathaway's falling and bracing for impact. The kick afterwards doesn't look to have hit McCabe's head at all.

I think the back of his head slamming on the ice is what did it.

Looks like the knee landed more in the chest. I thought the knee was intentional at first. And after watching it a hundred times over I'm still not convinced it wasn't accidentally on purpose.

But you do see the leg and knee bounce first innocently before coming to rest somewhere more up by the chest and face than the head.

I watched the clip, I thought it was hard to tell what happened (no slomo)
