Post-Game Talk: Leafs win! Stolie with the shuttie

Our Leafs played a great game last night.

They are still getting hemmed in their D-zone too much for my liking, however the D-zone play was good enough to get Stolarz a shutout.

Our Leafs need to bring this energy every game left, and then into the playoffs.

Secondary and tertiary scoring will be key in the playoffs !!!

I thought Jarnkrok has been looking good defensively. I wonder who the black aces will be.
I guess you are right. He has not been a liability on that side of the puck. Just feels like he is out there working so hard accomplishing nothing. I would say though, if him being in means we give up less, then that is probably the way to go. I've just not been enamoured with him since his return.

This team is headed in the right direction.

Feels like Knies and McMann are adding a real big boy factor to the top two lines which we've never really had in this era. Stolarz brings a ton of swagger in the net. The star players look like they're clicking again, Marner and Matthews look all business and Tavares and Nylander good great. Robertson had himself a big night.

Gotta keep it up.

Hard
I'd ask for Laughton to play much better than he is currently. Sucks to see him struggle here while Mintin played his first game with the Bruins tonight and fans seemed to think he didn't look out of place in his first game with the Bs.

Still maintain that Brad shouldn't have traded him and simply played him with the Leafs or just bring up Steeves and save ourselves a 1st and a good prospect and just trade Grebenkin and a 1st for Carlo.
Hard to argue with that.

Does Patches get in ? If so Laughton should be scratched. In fact, based on his play to this point there’s no reason to have him in the starting lineup for game one other than it makes it look like a terrible trade with the Flyers.

Stolarz is the guy. I expect him to be elite in the playoffs. I think leafs fans are in for a real surprise on how good this guy is going to be.

I assume we go with Laughton because of the price paid but if we get in a bind and get down... Patches comes in and loyalty to bad players should go out the window

Robertson is certainly making a case for suiting up game 1 of the playoffs, I just can't see him and Domi on the same line, especially with Max at C. Too much of a defensive liability.

Unfortunately, for that 3rd line there aren't a lot of options. Laughton just hasn't got it, otherwise he's at C, Domi on the wing and then ? Jarnkrok hasn't shown anything since his return. Holmberg won't produce anything if he's outside the top 6 but at least he's defensively responsible (comparatively speaking).

So I honestly don't know what to suggest at this point.
Thankfully still a little time for all of these guys to make their case.

11 different guys fought last year?

I didn’t think it was that many.
Going strictly by major penalties taken, so they may not have been 'fights':

Reaves 7, Domi 6, Benoit 4, McCabe & McMann 2 each, and Giordano, Rielly, Bertuzzi, Lagesson, Gregor, and Knies 1 each.

He hasn’t been good but probably zero chance you can subs grebs for Minten in the Carlo deal. Bruins had a target there for sure and Minten is a better prospect. Doubt Tre would have made the same deal for Laughton if it had to be Minten. Probably could have gotten more regardless though.
I would try and see if the Bruins wouldn't accept a 1st, Grebenkin and maybe another pick or two rather than give up Minten who can fill a need for the Leafs for the future and even maybe right now if given the chance. As I said in a previous post give Minten a run of games and see if he's ready or why not give Steeves a shot who has looked good this year and has already been in our organization for a few years and hasn't ever got a long look with the Leafs either.

Right now both those guys would be doing at least the same if not better than what Laughton is giving us so far.
