Now he’s doubly my hero. Not the belt - he wants the Cup.
No, it means people lack an understanding of stats, and that even the best stats require context.
Maybe they didn’t even want to win, maybe the Leafs just shut it down after 2 and yes maybe they could have put up 9 if they had to. That’s the problem with expected stats, they don’t take into account circumstances. There is no stat, or group of stats, that can be presented that can say that Philadelphia wins THAT game 63% of the time with ANY credibility.
they got absolutely curb stomped in every way possible last night and the result was a 7-2 loss, and it could have been and should have been worse because it could have been and should have been 8-2 because Marner was absolutely pushed into the goaltender.
If they get that PP it might have ended 9-2.
The point is that's arguably the most dominant game they have played this season It's certainly top 3.
There is no chance in hell Philadelphia wins that game 63% of the time it doesn't happen.
To me, there are no excuses. IF they have to beat both TB and FLA, then so be it. If they lose to one of them, I don't wanna hear any excuses. This group just gotta get it done. No crying "oh it's so tough!" none of that. That's already been exhausted.

Just shows how irrelevant expected goals and fancy stats are. I particularly like how excuses like lucky bounces/bad bounces etc etc are used to explain away why the fancy stats are so far out to lunch so oftenThere is no stat, or group of stats, that can be presented that can say that Philadelphia wins THAT game 63% of the time with ANY credibility.
